Dark Fragment

This is a submission for Kevin’s No Theme Thursday.

Imagine what it feels like being a fragment of darkness.

Everyone is scared of you.

No one wants you. People try to heal from you, to cut you out of their soul.

You were borne from pain and suffering. You arrived in this person’s psyche because of something awful that tormented them and caused them undue stress.

And now they want to cut you out of their soul.

You’re their coping mechanism.

Their compartmentalization.

A salvation.

And here they are, trying to get rid of you!

How dare they?!

Then, there are some who wallow in you, and who love self-pity and destruction. Those souls aren’t good either. You’re trying to move on, and they’re holding on tighter than ever.

Move on already!

They love to wear you as a badge of honor, either as a shield or because it makes them feel better about their failures in life in a strange way. So they can continue their toxic habit or behavior.

Being a fragment of darkness is hard!

You have to put up with so many demons.

And the soul is never grateful, ever.

It’s finally time…to dissipate.

So the soul can become free again.

Even fragments of darkness need to release their hold.

Some people hold onto darkness much longer than is good for them. They don’t do the work to heal, they’d rather wallow in sad, hurt, anger, or whatever caused them to become fragmented to begin with.

I’m not saying it’s easy, healing never is.

Let that fragment go once it’s time to move on. Recognize it for what it is.

It’s not meant to be there forever.

You are supposed to be whole and healed.

  1. Beautiful post ❤ … I agree so much! I think sometimes, people don't mean to hold on to the darkness. It isn't until someone shines a light on it that you're able to see. But! It's up to you to take the opportunity to acknowledge it ❤

    • Thank you Kay 🙏 😊 ❤️ I’m glad you liked it. I agree, I think people don’t mean to either but it’s a way of life sometimes. And that’s true, sometimes we need another person to help show us the way ❤️

  2. Really good one, Laura! Thoughtful and true.
For me, harmony is important, and I can’t without light, and I always realize this more after going through a period of darkness.

  3. the way you have written this …speaks so well to that dark and healing, Laura… to me your tone sounds stern/firm yet still gentle with understanding…
    really so well expressed 🤍💫

  4. I’ve preferred not getting rid of these aspects of oneself, but diving into them. They have a root and a cause in most cases, and how often are they trauma responses. In many ways it’s a very unkind mirror, one which allows flaws to stand out in glaring detail and thus the real work can begin.

    • I agree we should dive into them, I talk about that all the time on doing “inner work” and there’s nothing wrong with a little darkness. However, in the case of having a fragmented soul, fragments often don’t need to “hang around” as we outgrow them and they transform. They are still a “part” of us, but like a memory instead of at the forefront of who we are, if that makes sense.
Appreciate your comment 😀 thank you! 🙏

    • Thank you so much Stanley 🙏 really glad you liked this one, I can see how it speaks to you based on a lot of the spiritual aspects you write about 😊 really so appreciated 🙏 and yes, it’s hard to get stuck and be in limbo, for sure. It’s hard not to stagnate but we always have to be mindful I feel 😊

  5. Love the personification of darkness and the escape/embrace struggle… very creative 😎👏 I think there are some fragments that are so profound that we’re never entirely free. Perhaps like Frodo and the morgul blade and how…each year on the anniversary…it came calling; and how ultimately, his only peace was found in leaving middle earth. Great post!

    • Thank you so much, Darryl! I’m glad you liked it. 🙏 And that’s true, I do think they can keep a hold on us, depending on how deep. Much appreciated and thank you so much again for your kind words! 😊
