This is a submission for Kevin’s No Theme Thursday.
Imagine what it feels like being a fragment of darkness.

Everyone is scared of you.
No one wants you. People try to heal from you, to cut you out of their soul.
You were borne from pain and suffering. You arrived in this person’s psyche because of something awful that tormented them and caused them undue stress.
And now they want to cut you out of their soul.
You’re their coping mechanism.
Their compartmentalization.
A salvation.
And here they are, trying to get rid of you!
How dare they?!
Then, there are some who wallow in you, and who love self-pity and destruction. Those souls aren’t good either. You’re trying to move on, and they’re holding on tighter than ever.
Move on already!
They love to wear you as a badge of honor, either as a shield or because it makes them feel better about their failures in life in a strange way. So they can continue their toxic habit or behavior.
Being a fragment of darkness is hard!
You have to put up with so many demons.
And the soul is never grateful, ever.
It’s finally time…to dissipate.
So the soul can become free again.
Even fragments of darkness need to release their hold.
©️ Laura Bennett
Some people hold onto darkness much longer than is good for them. They don’t do the work to heal, they’d rather wallow in sad, hurt, anger, or whatever caused them to become fragmented to begin with.
I’m not saying it’s easy, healing never is.
Let that fragment go once it’s time to move on. Recognize it for what it is.
It’s not meant to be there forever.
You are supposed to be whole and healed.

For you🥰🥰🥰🧡

Wise words, but no, definitely not easy. That said, it is extremely sound advice and well written, as always 😊

It was interesting to leave the comment I left on Kevin’s post, praising the little bit of anger, then arrive here! 😀

I think you can “let go” and still have a bit of anger in you that’s useful. More like motivation, It’s another tool in the box. But, it is not easy to do and I stand by that assertion.
And let’s be honest – No one can be happy ALL the time. If they are, they are either a liar, or doped up on a cocktail of drugs either legal, illegal, or a combination of the two lol

I agree with that, kinda like what I was saying about the rage. It’s a part of you, some of us more than others lol and depending on the circumstances can be fuel for something, even in madness and darkness (and let’s be real, we’re all mad here, down the rabbit hole and all that shit) so we know it’s a part of us, the problem is when we hold unnecessarily…you know the types. You encounter them everyday at work lol

That’s usually where the difficulty comes in. Discerning what is and isn’t necessary. It can be a blurry line at times.

Absolutely true it can definitely be a blurred line and hard to decipher

Absolutely. It took me a hot minute to stop berating myself for falling from high motivational highs, learning that toxic positivity is a thing. I still love to get myself motivated and ride the waves, but I don’t even want those waves to be endless!

If I were happy or positive all the time, I’d be out of my mind lol
I think like mischief (lol), there are levels. Holding onto some things in some quantity, letting go, but not completely, etc. I think they all serve a purpose at some point in time.
And there’s probably some things that are best let go of completely. There’s no magic formula that applies to everyone.

Most formulas are useful fictions, unless one is a chemist or something. 😀 Maybe the positivity stuff is more like fruit/veggies, great when fresh, but you can’t hold on. 🙂

Not forever anyways!! Love that fruit / veggie analogy… they go bad so quick lol 😆 but you can always get more…better eat em before it goes bad tho and you waste your money!!
Lemme get my coffee before I ramble some more lolol

That’s a very good way to look at it. Perhaps, just like anger, maybe sometimes positivity needs to be let go at times if held on for too long. Great observation.

The thing with fragments is sometimes they serve a purpose. We can outgrow them, and sometimes we are fragmented for a long time. I almost did write in my little footnote “aww don’t you feel bad for the fragment” haha 😆 but I think of it even like rage. It’s there, it’s inside but is it fractured like the soul. You always have it, even if you heal and it becomes a memory. Like a shard of glass. You can glue the broken object back together, but it may not be perfect. It’s life. Part of our experience and our journey to become whole again (or not, depending on choices sometimes) but yes the fragments serve a purpose too. Like a candle burning in the darkness.

Beautiful post ❤ … I agree so much! I think sometimes, people don't mean to hold on to the darkness. It isn't until someone shines a light on it that you're able to see. But! It's up to you to take the opportunity to acknowledge it ❤

Thank you Kay 🙏 😊 ❤️ I’m glad you liked it. I agree, I think people don’t mean to either but it’s a way of life sometimes. And that’s true, sometimes we need another person to help show us the way ❤️

This is really profound, Laura. It’s not something we talk about. It just gets suppressed until it eats you up. The wise soul in you speaks truth.

Being a fragment of darkness, that’s an interesting thought. You wouldn’t want to be called a fragment of darkness. It was fun reading and interesting thoughts to ponder.

I’ve preferred not getting rid of these aspects of oneself, but diving into them. They have a root and a cause in most cases, and how often are they trauma responses. In many ways it’s a very unkind mirror, one which allows flaws to stand out in glaring detail and thus the real work can begin.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I agree we should dive into them, I talk about that all the time on doing “inner work” and there’s nothing wrong with a little darkness. However, in the case of having a fragmented soul, fragments often don’t need to “hang around” as we outgrow them and they transform. They are still a “part” of us, but like a memory instead of at the forefront of who we are, if that makes sense.
Appreciate your comment 😀 thank you! 🙏

You’re right, Laura. Being a fragment of darkness is hard. But it’s even harder to be stuck in it while everyone else is moving on! 😊
Well done, beautifully thought out, and beautifully expressed.

Love the personification of darkness and the escape/embrace struggle… very creative 😎👏 I think there are some fragments that are so profound that we’re never entirely free. Perhaps like Frodo and the morgul blade and how…each year on the anniversary…it came calling; and how ultimately, his only peace was found in leaving middle earth. Great post!

Thank you so much, Darryl! I’m glad you liked it. 🙏 And that’s true, I do think they can keep a hold on us, depending on how deep. Much appreciated and thank you so much again for your kind words! 😊

I like this analogy Laura. It is true that some people hold onto the negative aspects of their life far to long. Why sit in sadness or hatred, it doesn’t get anyone anywhere.

Thank you for your comment, Pennie 😊 I do appreciate it. I agree, but I think some people like to use it as a shield or an excuse in ways. It’s helped me immensely feel better by allowing some of those aspects fade away, so to speak. Glad if it resonated with you 🙏
