How would you improve your community?
This is going to be a post with a bit of yammering (but includes cute kitty photos!) soβ¦get ready?

About a year ago, one of the water treatment plants here was having animal control come pick up some of the cats that were living in the area. I always say having a cat around is a great thing, especially since they are such good pest control.
Useful little creatures, they are.
However, I guess there was starting to be too many of them and it was becoming a nuisance. Understandable.
The thought of what might happen to any of them, though – really broke my heart.

I already had a cat though. My Lucy died unfortunately that year in January, but I still had my tuxedo, Garrus (named after the character in Mass Effect – my favorite video game series).
I definitely didnβt need another cat. I was still healing from the loss of one, as well.
But one really sweet girl caught my eye:
Stella.

βOk, okβ¦Iβll take you home.β

Turns out, a few weeks laterβ¦.surprise, surprise – she was eating a lot more and getting much bigger. Nope, she wasnβt just getting chonky because she now had a comfortable home inside – she was pregnant. I already had plans to spay her, but that was all out the window now.
βShit, I shouldβve known better.β
No good deed goes unpunished and all that, am I right?

Pissed at myself, I decided to let her have the kittens here, and then give them to good homes when they were old enough, upon agreement of spay/neuter.
This was also around the time I was becoming deathly sick with pancolitis. It was a really fucked up time, for lack of a better way to say it.
She had the kittens on April 6th.
I came home from work in the middle of the night at 3AM because I was too damn sick to stay, and there she was.

Luckily, she also did most of the work.
Thankfully, because I was ill up until almost the end of May.

Obviously, I never gave away the cats. Yep, my house is full of automatic litter boxes (luckily) and tons of cat feeders. But I also wouldnβt change it for anything.

So, the moral of this very long story?
Please spay/neuter your animals. It does actually help the community because there are so many animals without homes and then they sometimes fall into the hands of people with less than great intentions.
A sad thought, most definitely.

Along with this very small contribution that I made to the cat community, since you all know Iβm a nurse – I would love to do something to make healthcare of better quality and more affordable, as that is something that affects us all.
None of those broken promises given by politicians with agendas that never come to fruition; only concerned with the almighty dollar and profit.
But thatβs a post for another day.

Happiest of Wednesdayβs to you all, I hope.

Love cats β€οΈ

Delightful cat-filled post! I feel so full and fuzzy now. π When I moved into this apartment there were two women who already had a system down pat for what to do when cats and kittens would show up here (lots). I would arrive home in the middle of the night sometimes and see them out there grabbing cats to take them to be spayed/neutered. They also knew everyone in the neighborhood because of this, so lots of people became cat owners because of them. π

Thatβs awesome. A lot of people do TNR too because theyβre too wild or feral to make house cats, so itβs so nice when there is a system in place, most definitely. π and glad I could make you feel some fuzziness, thatβs always nice!!

You know I love the kitties! That exact same thing, and your feelings about them are how I wrote the book about them. Just out there living the good life in the country but harsh realities as well. I didn’t cry!! Yay. I have to get the pics in it.

Well done you Laura, You clearly have a kind heart! Cats are just ace creatures aren’t they. My Mum would always take in strays, she was a sweetheart. I love all animals, but always had a particular liking for cats hence. Short story: I once had a cat named ‘Biff’, he was a bit of a Garfield…he was not too fast, bit fluffy and teddy bearish, he was ace. Anyway, he liked to bring gifts he caught through the cat-flap, so he used to bring in things people had thrown away, rather than birds – ‘Sandwiches’ the school kids has discarded, a ‘full’ tub of coleslawπ€…he even once dragged in a completely soiled ‘full’ babies diaperπ! Not sure how he would get them through the cat-flap, but he would! I miss him…I miss them all. Anyway, bless you, you are doing good. Have an ace day…Jayπ

Bless you too and hope you have a great day as well! π
