Reflections

Here’s a calm and easy meditative post to hopefully start your Hump Day out on the right foot!

Mountain lake whispers,

Reflections of ancient trees,

Silence soothes the soul.

In stillness of dawn,

Mirror of trees kiss blue skies,

Peaceful calm takes root.

Sky and forest merge,

Mountain lake’s quiet embrace,

Solitude within.

Hope you enjoyed my lake photos from my recent vacation and my (very first!) crack at haiku. Which one was your favorite? Also, I would’ve given anything to be able to swim here! Maybe one day…

  1. I would never have known you were a novice at haiku if you hadn’t mentioned it. You pulled them off like a pro and they are even about nature, which is the suggestion that accompanies haiku writing that I always have the most difficulty with.

    • Oh, thank you! That’s very kind of you. I did find it quite tricky but yes I’ve never written one before this. It’s a little scary because sometimes they can be so technical (with different forms!) so I’m glad to know I did ok 😊 appreciate that very much, Violet!

    • Thank you so much, Maggie! ❀️
Aww, I like the first one too! πŸ€— I know, I find some poetry forms so dizzying πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’« but intriguing as well, too! Much appreciated πŸ₯°

      • Laura, you are so welcome.
There are so many forms, most of which I won’t attemptπŸ™„.
But I am enjoying writing haiku’s.
Have a lovely day my friend β£οΈπŸ™πŸ€—

  2. Ah, these colors! I am noticing a huge contrast here between your photos and the one I posted today of the river near us. We are still so gray and uncovering from winter β€” there is still beauty, but it isn’t as colorful. Lovely photos, Laura.

    • Thank you! 😊 Your photo is beautiful, I love the grays too, there’s something soothing about it. Really so appreciated πŸ™ I’m sure as spring unfolds more there will be so many more vibrant colors coming through! 😍

    • Thank you, Ernie! 😊 I would’ve gone swimming but I needed a wetsuit! Was in the 30s overnight and 26 the day I left. Should’ve maybe just said screw it and jump in? Polar plunge it?! Haha πŸ˜† that actually would have been fun and something I’d love to do one day.

And yes I love number 3 too! Peacefully insane, always and forever! β˜•οΈ πŸ™ β˜•οΈ

  4. Laura. When I read these, I had on some calming music I listen to on YouTube. I read your post, I re-read it. I read it as one poem in fact and I have to say, this might be the best thing you’ve written so far on this subject. I loved it so much.

  5. Your haikus are absolutely mesmerizing! The way you capture the serene beauty of a mountain lake, the gentle whispers of nature, and the harmony between sky, trees, and water is truly soothing to the soul. Each line feels like a deep breath of fresh air, bringing a sense of calm and quiet reflection. I could almost hear the stillness of dawn and see the mirror like embrace of the lake.

  6. This is very beautiful poem, feels like being in your photos. My favorite lines are ”Silence soothes the soul” and ”In stillness of dawn”. Picture #2 is my favorite, these two lines are in there and I love that blue color. Very refreshing post😊
