Lost and Found

Daily writing prompt
What’s the coolest thing you’ve ever found (and kept)?

My sanity.

Remaining calm among chaos – Level: Expert

But then I lost it again.

And then I realized I kind of like being in-between insane and “normal”. It allows you to be a bit weird and standoffish, but still in the realm of being able to function in “everyday” society (if that’s what you’d like to call it).

There’s some pluses and minuses to having your sanity somewhat intact. Depends on how far you take it.

Don’t spiral down too far or too deep…it’s hard to come back up 🌀

Intact? I’ve got a job, I’m not a bum or a total loser, I can pay my bills (which can send anyone into a breakdown), I still have my freedom, I can do what I want (within reason), and I don’t have to rely on anyone.

Descending into madness? No one messes with you until you’ve had your coffee, they leave you alone so you can hibernate as long as you want, and it’s a good excuse to take a break or a vacation (literally or figuratively), and we all know I’m overdue for a vacation.

Let’s hope she has some Fukitol in there…

The RBF goes into full effect and everyone scatters, but then again, perhaps it always has been there. I mean… have you seen my display pic? 😆

That’s Nurse Ratched for you, and I’m just living the life of someone in “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.”

Oops, that’s not the one I was thinking of…but you get the idea.

Good movies btw, may be on my list to rewatch sometime soon.

Checking off Gratitude Day box #17: “a personality trait of yours.” That’s right, I’m grateful for my Peaceful Insanity. Hope you find your way back soon, Ernie Dawg. 🙏 ☕️ ✌️

  1. You’re embracing the beauty of being in between insane and normal where you can be a bit quirky and still function in everyday life. That’s a great place to be. Having your sanity somewhat intact has its perks you’ve got a job, pay your bills and enjoy freedom. But i guess descending into madness has its benefits too people leave you alone nd you can take a break whenever you want.

  2. The spiral staircase can indeed lead in either direction and it can be very easy to just continue walking downwards.
Too far down, and the climb back up can be one hell of an effort.
To wander down “just enough” requires a great sense of balance and judgement.
Kudos to you for having the judgment to not only do it, but to do it with a unique style and flair 😊

    • I suppose. I could descend further, but I feel like I always try to stop myself. Of course, kind and encouraging words always help 🥰 🤗 ❤️ and are always so very much appreciated 🙏

  3. I was about to ask you to coach me on the art of being calm amongst the chaos…and then I saw that you wrote next. Some days are just crap. I think that somewhere between insane and normal might be a perfect fit for the world we live in, sadly. Sometimes I feel I’m on the verge of spiralling down into the depths myself. Great pictures as usual, Laura. I see that you have finally perfected that copyright statement!

    • Ughh you’re too right, Shweta. I dunno if I can call it a “balance” of insanity and normalcy but that’s certainly what it feels like on some days! 😩 but keeping calm in chaos? It’s an art form I had to learn being a nurse. Not to panic when everything around you is falling apart 😆 take the good, with the bad. Some wins, and some losses. 🙏 I hope you’re having a great day and thank you so much for your kind words about the pictures 😀 ❤️ still unsure about the copyright 🤣

      • I think you can certainly call it a balance. It’s a very delicate one though. Ohh, that would definitely be required in your line of work. So much is at stake. Life is a mix of the good, bad, the ugly, wins and losses. Hasn’t been the greatest of days but I do have certain things to be thankful for. You’re very welcome, Laura. Haha. I’m sure you’ll figure it out. I’m enjoying all the trial versions 😂

      • Thank you Shweta 😊 you are too kind 🙏 appreciate your supportive words and am very grateful. Here to a better day ahead ❤️ 🤗 and with gratitude it seems you always win in the end. Glad you like the trials! 🤣

      • Always a pleasure, Laura. My day hasn’t started off on a good note. Broke a glass bowl and ended up hurting myself, but luckily it’s a small cut. Cleaning up the chaos wasn’t the way I wanted to start. 😔 Hopefully the rest of the day will fare better. Focusing on gratitude might be a hard fight today.
Oh, I’m definitely enjoying the trials. 😁

  4. You nailed it last week when you said work would be a challenge. Perhaps I need to develop my own RBF, instead of bending over backwards to please everyone. (I am in the people pleasing, or at least getting people tipsy business, but oh my God they’re so needy right now😵‍💫 It’s like they think no one will ever take care of them again.) It’s crazy, because unlike in your transactions, in mine it’s not even about health, which is actually important!

    • No but it’s the same in so many ways. And in this recovery business, it is a lot like customer service, more than you’d think. And honestly, you’re probably serving lots of my customers as well right now 🤣 ironically enough. I hope it calms down. I get that “needy” vibe, omg, and last night I had the psych patient from hell 😆 I’m ready to sleep it all away. I get it, develop that RBF!! I’m here for it! 😂 hope the energy calms a bit 🫶 people like us who are in the serving business (it’s all service) need to have frequent cleansings of others’ energies, I swear!

      • Get me a Brillo pad! Seriously, tho, your understanding is cleanse enough for me. All I need to know is that there are still some human beings left in the world. That is, beings with the good characteristics that come along with being human. I’ve been lucky to find a lot of them, and you are definitely one!😜🫶

      • Awww Ted you are too sweet! I think there’s a lot of good people, unfortunately the bad outshines a lot and our negative experiences always stick with us. 🙏 appreciated always 🫶 I love how your writing is going, the creativity flows through you even with those crazy work days!

    • Hahaha!! She lives on that Fukitol and caffeine I imagine. Gummies work too sometimes lol 😆 but we can certainly manufacture “Fukitol gummies” what a great idea lol 🙏 ❤️

      • Giggling. I was actually trying gummies for the first time this week, but they never arrived. Maybe it’s a sign that it isn’t a great idea and that there’s a better option. Now to make our powerpoint and look for investors…

When you finally accept that it’s OK not to have answers and it’s OK not to be perfect, you realize that feeling confused is a normal part of what it is to be a human being.

  8. This made me giggle in the best way possible! My partner always tell me I’m crazy (in a loving way). I tell him it’s okay because I’m the good kind of crazy! 😂

But tyen again, what really is normal and by who’s standards…and what fun is it being “normal?”

  9. I love Edgar Allen poe”s quote ““I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity.” And then of course there are a good friend in the Cheshire cat, who reminds us we’re all mad here. It’s all about finding a balance 🙂 I don’t think we can be fully sane and be creative, but finding that balance does help us live in the real world 🙂 good luck with everything. Don’t let the bastards grind you down.
