Routines…

Daily writing prompt
What part of your routine do you always try to skip if you can?

…are boring AF.

Too rigid. Too “type A.” Too much not like me.

Well, sometimes.

Of course, I’d be a calmer, healthier, more productive and civilized version of myself if I adopted a “better” routine.

Chaos theory works well for my life, sometimes.

I’ll tell you one that I definitely don’t ever skip. ☕️ now…give me a routine where I can make my hair look like that! 👑

However, as the grey (gray? Who uses one over the other?) hairs start to seep in, routine becomes more favorable.

It’s like that everyday anxiety that you learn to function with, finally. It just prickles at you in the background. It makes you get up and do stuff.

I mean, it’s not really that fun but I have to work for a living, so I can’t have an excuse otherwise.

I don’t think waxing and coloring count, but more often than not however, they get left behind 😆

Hmmm. I guess if I had to, I’d love to have a solid sleep and workout routine. That would be the best.

I would imagine if you incorporated something into a routine, you wouldn’t want to skip it.

Black cat is clearly up to something while I figure out how to use this toothbrush… 🪥 🐈‍⬛ with 6 fingers to boot!

Like, don’t skip brushing your teeth or taking a shower. Eww.

Oh, and while I’ve decided to go there and mention it, I might as well say work.

Yep. Take work off my routine.

Pay me for simply existing.

Is letting the drafts pile up a routine? Should we put into effect a “draft purge day” perhaps? Who’s with me?

There, I’ve said it.

Hopefully now I can work it into my 11/11 manifestation and it’s not too late!

This was a rather boring prompt, wasn’t it? In keeping with the Daily Gratitude, I’ll go ahead and cross off item #19 – “Something about work.” While I may complain about it, I am of course grateful that I have a job that pays my bills.

Hmm…and that’s all the good things and gratitude that can be said about work! 😆

Happy Taco Tuesday! 🌮

  1. I love the way you integrated your photos 🙂 it was so fun to see. Routine is definitely a mixed bag. With work you don’t really have so much a choice of the things you have to do, trying to think if there are any fun aspects of a routine

    • Aww thanks 😊 I’m so glad you liked it. It can be a mixed bag. True, there’s the “have to” dos, and then the “want to do” routines. Let’s keep yoga as a good and fun routine please! 🙏

  2. Great pictures to go along with the content. I am a creature of habit 😂 Chaos make me go mad! I like routine. I may procrastinate but I end up doing it all the same. The only days when I let go of the routine are on the days when I’m truly not okay. I would like to be paid simply for existing too 😂
Do let me know if you find a way! Lol
Haha. I believe we have talked about those nasty drafts before. We can effect a draft purge day, but I’m not sure that’ll be effective for me 😅😂 Just the other day, I was doing through my drafts and I’ve got stuff in there dating back to 2016. 😬 I tend to write myself into a corner and then I’ll just abandon it altogether 🫣

    • Oh man, I totally get this about the drafts! I have some from 2022 and then I have notes from even longer back on my phone lol 😆 *hides* perhaps we could select some from just this year alone? 🤣 One draft a month? Your choice…haha. We’ll see, right? Sometimes we can get lucky and find a suitable one 😂

I kinda envy you with your routine. If I worked on days it would probably be easier. Overnights 12 hours are kinda a mixed bag. On those days it’s as little as possible and sleep, and then the rest of the days are spent playing catch up lol. Always lacking in something someway. Ughh. Where’s the “getting paid for existing” when we need it?! I’ll definitely let you know…perhaps we should play the lottery lol 🤣 💸

      • Haha. Perhaps we could start with the drafts that won’t make us feel like hitting our head against a wall 😂 That sounds like a promising pact.

Yeah, it’s hard on an overnight 12 hour shift. Sleep should be the priority indeed. With my luck, I’m pretty sure I’ll never win the jackpot 😂😂😂

  3. I think in the context of specific things the prompt actually makes sense. Specific work tasks, or chores like washing dishes, laundry, etc. Might be things we hate, but kind of have to do anyhow. Ironically, it’s not the worst prompt they’ve ever put out there. But, the bar is pretty low lol

  4. You could try those “velcro” rollers popular in the 90s to see if they gave you that kind of hair/curl. I had a few clients in my past life as a cosmetologist who loved those things. Firm curl, just a shot of spray gel. Soft curl, just wet hair until dry (my clients would sleep in them).

Just a thought. Check Sally’s or, I suppose, Amazon. I takes some trial and error, but rolls similar to how you might use a curling iron is what I recall from a quarter of a century ago.

    • Oh man! I forgot you did hair too along with being a barista!! That’s so cool! 😆 I used to put socks (clean, not worn on the feet LOL) in my hair and tie them up and sleep on them. That worked for those softer curls as well.

Man, you remind me. I haven’t been to a Sally’s in a hot minute. One of these off days I need to go. Thank you! 💅✨

      • I’ve worn many, many hats over the years.

Yeah, socks work too, but they take longer to dry than these nonabsorbant and hollow velcro rollers I’m thinking about. Nice thing is that they work great on the hydrogen bonds (oops, my chemistry is showing…), so they work decent without styling product (except baby-fine hair, and even then…) so you (or someone else) can run fingers through your hair…

I just had one of those happy memories of a client who tried it and gave me a huge hug at the next appointment because it shaved a half-hour off her morning routine once she got the hang of it. She was all about the sexy-bedhead thing and spent far too long each day getting there until she discovered the rollers.

    • Thanks for the tip! Velcro rollers are such a classic—it’s great to hear they’re still an option for achieving different types of curls. I appreciate the details about the firm vs. soft curl techniques, especially the idea of sleeping in them for softer curls. Sometimes the best solutions really are the tried-and-true ones from decades ago! I’ll definitely check out Sally’s or Amazon and give it a try. Thanks for sharing your expertise!

  5. Thank you Laura for your delightful address of this profound question.

I spell grey with the ‘e’.

“Chaos theory works well for my life, sometimes. I would like to think that there is balance in all things in life patterns too are sometimes okay to be shifted/broken for the sake of gaining a fresh perspective.

I like the thought of being paid just for existing…Perfect!!

  7. This is the real secret of life; to be completely engaged with what you are doing in the here and now. Start from where you are, use what you have, do what you can. If you become engaged with the present moment and with what you are doing, this is the point where you become at one with your surroundings and the entire universe too.

Routines are not real. They are constructs of our society which we have all adopted as our own personal tick list. This can be discarded as unnecessary pressure to keep us in order. Let go of your routine and adopt the process of living in the present moment. You will see which one is the most beneficial for you 😉

  8. Taking work off your routine. Hmm that’s a tough one, but I did already. I took early retirement from my software engineering job, but I could afford it. In my 30’s that would not have been a wise idea. I wish you happy Tuesday as well.

    • Lucky, Thomas. Show me your ways, please 😆 but yes…work, work, work. Ahhh. 😱 at least some days off are coming up! Software engineering sounds like a great gig, but probably was a lot of schooling!

      • haha I was never one to take naps until a few years ago. That was then, now I know the value of a restorative catnap. 😺 You’re very welcome, Laura. A treat to visit. 😊💕
