Among the Melancholy Clouds

This is a submission for Kevin’s No Theme Thursday.

Trees whisper sadness

In moments of no hope

Seeking solace in solitude

At the end of your rope

Looking back on time

Of dreams faded away

With a melancholy sigh

Dark clouds here to stay

Taking a deep breath

Tears streaming down

No matter how hard you try

Bad thoughts abound

For a moment of peace

Among frigid forest air

Rustle of falling leaves

Soothe thoughts of despair

Taking a step deeper

Into the vast expanse

Wondering out loud

Is this my last chance?

🌲 Sometimes in life we are faced with hard moments. Sometimes all you feel like is fading away. Sometimes all you want to do is cry. Sometimes all you want to do is scream.

And sometimes, there is just not enough fight left in you.

But we must carry on.

Thank you for reading. πŸ™

  1. I’m enjoying reading it in a cafΓ© before breaking off for my home. Coincidentally, they were playing ‘Intoxicated’ by ‘Harrison Brome’. It harmonized somehow (do not get fooled by the song’s name).

  2. As I told you earlier, this is very, very good and quite profound. I quit the fight at least several times a day and a lot of times I really don’t want to get back into it. More often than not, I truly wish I could just fade away.

This poem encapsulates that perfectly. πŸ€—πŸ€—

  3. It is taking me a bit of time to reply today, with my feelings awfully close to the surface. I think I had been concentrating on the wrong elements of the poem on my first read too, so I had to revisit.

Quite a contrast to the peaceful imagery, Laura. The internal vs external environments.

    • No worries, Tash πŸ™ I am appreciative 😊
I think the picture inspires peace but gave me a cold chill, with moods up and down the last few days. I think sometimes we do everything in our power to feel well even among beautiful scenery to go out and clear our heads, to reset. Sometimes it helps and sometimes it doesn’t.
But the message is still we have to carry on 😊

  4. A powerful poem, Laura ❀ … In Tahoe a couple weeks back, seeing the burn scars, devastating loss of trees (God smacking amount) … I could have a cried a river, except we’re still in a drought. Then I see, Kevin’s heavenly image and it reminded me of how it used to be. I find comfort that I stand with you! Now, where’s that 3rd mug of coffee (lol) … Wishes for an exceptional weekend and possibly a hike in your near future! πŸ˜‰

    • Thank you lovely ❀️ I’m so sorry you had to go through that. It is heartbreaking to think of – what once was, and now is. Either at the hands of other people or just as times evolve. I hate to see nature destroyed in any form. I feel you on those tears 😒 3rd mug is definitely needed! I hope you have a great weekend too ❀️ a hike sounds wonderful!

      • I’m surprised my words came back so quickly, honestly, but at first it was hard to even form thoughts. I notice a lot of people are leaning on poetry to get at some feelings hard to express, and I definitely felt as though yours did that. ❀

    • A great way to say it, Michele. I even like the dark clouds sometimes, as they tell a story. Luckily, the darkness doesn’t always loom forever 😊 much appreciated and Happy Saturday πŸ™ πŸ’•

      • Good day, Laura, and thank you. I was going to write “morning,” however that no longer applies to you way over there. πŸ‘‹πŸ» Of course, I agree with you about the clouds – dark, gray, puffy white… they all bring more layers and perspectives into our lives. And cliche, but true, the dark night is just as important as the shining day, and we need the cleansing of rain. πŸ₯² OK, I will stop philosophizing. 😌 Lovely to read you! πŸ’•πŸŒ»πŸ™πŸ»

      • Your philosophical approach is most enlightening and appreciated, Michele 😁 I always like to hear your thoughts. πŸ’ A cleansing rain is exactly what I got, in a physical sense over here, so that was nice. 😊 πŸ’• πŸ₯° thank you, again.

  7. Fantastic poem.
Yes, sometimes there is just not enough fight in us, but the will keeps us going. Will assures us that we can accomplish it.
I hope everything is going well for you.
    Stay strong and take care.
    Wishing you a refreshing weekend.😊

    • Memes aside πŸ˜† I think that’s the vibe I’m definitely going for in this. To just be done with the world and become the shaman in the woods. Not a bad idea sometimes! πŸ˜†

    • Thank you so kindly, Thomas. Yes! Anyone can participate, you just choose a photo you like of Kevin’s and then write whatever you want to go along with it – poem, short story, article, your thoughts and musings. I’d love to see what you come up with!

      • Yes! Anything you like, poem, story, something that relates to your life, musings, I’ve seen all kinds of stuff. And no worries, I’m sure Kevin won’t mind me explaining to you πŸ˜† and yes then link his NTT post. Recently the ping backs have been unreliable as well so he asks if you can drop a link in the comments of the NTT post, just so he doesn’t miss your post. 😊

    • Hi Thomas, anyone is welcome to participate, yes. 😊
I don’t really impose too many rules other than I ask that folks not get too overly political or inflammatory. I’m not big on censorship at all, I just don’t want to see a war erupt between folks. Opinions are fine, as long as we’re all respectful is my feeling.

  8. Beneath the trees that whisper low,
Where shadows linger, cold winds blow,
    A glimmer shines, though faint, it’s trueβ€”
A simple light: the thanks for you.

For every sigh and tear that streams,
For dreams that fade but still leave gleams,
    A gratitude, a quiet balm,
To steady hearts and offer calm.

Thank you for the strength you bear,
    For seeking solace, finding air.
In frigid woods, through rustling leaves,
Your courage blooms; the soul believes.

Each step you take, each breath you find,
Is proof of hope within the mind.
So, thank you for this moment shared,
For showing life, though bruised, still cared.
