Glitches, Spam, and Protests, Oh My!

Hello folks. It’s been a minute since I’ve done a rant about our lovely WP overlords and also about blogging in general, but what can I say, Kevin inspired me. 😇

I’ll officially be joining the protest.

More like the Fail-y Prompt

Errr…I mean, Blog Strike.

Well, what’s the difference, really?

Can we call it a blog strike even if we’re still blogging? Questions for The Mayor of WP…

Also, are Mayors allowed to go on strike?

What about campaign managers? 😬

***Also, very importantly – I am noticing a ton of my comments going to spam on people’s blogs when I comment.***

So. Check your spam, because I may have commented and it’s sitting in there all nice and pretty.

I’m terrible about remembering to check for pending comments and “spam” myself (which is often not actual spam, but a genuine comment) and then I feel like an ultra witch with a capital “B” because I let it sit for 4 days without noticing. 🤦‍♀️

No, those comments aren’t spam at all! 😭

Anyways.

There aren’t so many new glitches to rant about, per se…it’s just the glitches that are present have become way worse, it seems. Things disappearing and crashing, at least on my end. I tend to be on mobile mostly but I’m sure there’s issues on PC too.

One of the things I’ve noticed lately is when I try to reply to comments, they skew all over the place in the JetPack app and sometimes it makes it literally impossible.

That’s always fun!

Uh oh, they’ve called in the HazMat team…we better GTFO 🏃‍♀️

And of course, there are plenty of reasons to protest the daily prompt as we all know. “Too broad, too specific,” chuck it out the window!

Any other suggestions?

Oh, also. If I’ve offended anyone (I’ve been told I have a tendency to come off as harsh sometimes) it definitely wasn’t intentional.

    Well, since I am not an “elected official” (don’t think I’ve forgotten the blacklisting, WP), I think, technically, I can still strike, protest or whatever we wish to call it. Hell, even if I was Mayor all official-like, I could just make a law saying I can! lol

  3. Thank you Laura for this post👍. I’m new to blogging etc. so I’m not sure what’s what🤔. I’ve noticed (by accident) I have msgs in spam! Random comments sent to me (not for me). And some f**k taking one of my paintings and putting it on their blog pahe without ref: who it belongs to 🤬. Sorry, but that’s my little rant to WP! Enjoy your 🌶️🌶️

    • Thanks Mike. I agree. I’m often on the go so it’s really the only way I use it, once in a while I do type out a post on PC but it’s not something I use all the time. I think I commented on one of yours too, earlier! Hopefully you got it

Hmmm… But yes! I am new enough to this that I know to check the spam folder!     • Haha thank you Kay 😊 and well, they’ve long been a thing I’ve been highly irritated by I suppose. I wouldn’t want anyone to skip them if they truly want to answer them but I swear we need to all come up with something better sometimes lolol 😆 🤣 and I still forget to check the spam!! Ugh 😫 🤦‍♀️ 🤣 and I figured as much because I didn’t see it go into your comments right away! Lol thanks for lookin out for me!! 💕 😊 ♎️ wooohooo haha. And lol you’re very introspective, I guess the harsh comment is because sometimes I feel like I can be a bit much and some people are put off, but I’m glad you’re not!! 😊 💗 and yes to tacos! 🌮

      • Wait… isn’t there an option to come up with a prompt? Hahaha! I swear I saw that option once, but… I couldn’t come up with a question for others 😅.

        Oh, I learned to keep up with that spam folder, because if you approve a comment, it’s not like it goes into your notifications as “unread”. I was like oh bananas… now I have to go find it. Blog Scavenger Hunt! 😂

        I don’t know how to respond to this last part, so… I’m just going to say: Keep being you and doing what you’re doing! 💗✨💗

        Yeah, I’m so bad about the spam. I need to really start looking at it. It’s insane and you feel so bad when it falls in there and it’s been a few days! Ugh 😫

      • When you go to create a blog… that little section where you have all the options to choose from, like image, galary, poll, etc. There’s a ton. I’m not sure if it’s just for your readers or not… probably 🤷‍♀️

        I think checking the spam folder is part of my blog process at this point. I’ve posted, I’ve posted, I’ve checked notifications, to the spam folder. 😅

  7. Yes, I emailed several times, I commented on their post ref: my painting. After which they closed the comments. They clicked like on my comments and then deleted them. I’ve emailed to say I’ve informed WP & I’ll be taking action etc. They emailed me back with a ‘like’ from a ‘no reply’ email address 🤬🤬🤬. I’ve now ‘copyright’ everything..even down to the word ‘FUCK’ 🤣🤣

  8. These WordPress glitches are really becoming frustrating. I think our Major should escalate this issue to the higher-ups and file a formal complaint. It’s taking the enjoyment out of blogging, commenting, and engaging with our community. I keep facing constant issues, and just when I think everything is resolved and I’m ready to dive in, another wave of glitches hits. It’s incredibly annoying!

  10. Really, a lot of strange things happen here on WP, not to mention the posts we publish and they keep replicating like weeds lol. I have to schedule and delete the replicas.🤦🏻‍♀️😄 Thank you for the protest initiative. 🤗🌌🙌🏻✨

  12. I have rescued genuine comments out of the spam folder way too often! And from people who have commented many times (and had me reply to them) too yet! Back at the beginning of the summer, I had a couple of my poems targeted by a (maybe several?) spam bot, and the first time after that I checked my spam folder and had 430 ish spam comments there… I still went through them all, because it was totally possible that a genuine comment was also in there, and I couldn’t bear the thought of deleting it with all the others. (There weren’t any, so my tedious care felt like a waste, but oh well…) Oh, that reminds me, I was planning to write a story using the oddest of those spam comments… *Checks her notes app* Yeah, they were going to be said by people meeting at the Students of Potentially Asinine Meddling conference (acronym is a WIP).

    • Holy crap! 430 spam comments?? Whattt 😱 that’s insane!! 💀 haha!! Omg you should totally write your poem! 😀 I can’t wait to read it! And ugh 😫 yeah I know what you mean about feeling like you totally wasted all your time, that sucks so much. I definitely have gotten lots of weird ones before and it’s so annoying

    • I’m not sure it’s something they “want” necessarily but I guess an option they put out there for its users to feel inspired to write daily. The glitches are definitely terrible! The thing is, the daily prompts get repetitive, obviously I can just not answer it 😆 but it’s always been something I think we all just complain about especially since there’s so many glitches. If it were a perfect platform and things didn’t act up all the time, I think we could let some things slide lol 😆

  16. Oh my goodness so much to say. I will definitely vote for tacos and Kevin for mayor 🙂 I definitely am going to start creating my own proms if this level of ridiculousness continues. I love your posts and your pictures so I’ll follow you no matter what you’re doing but so far your comments have not showed up in my spam so I will keep my fingers crossed 🙂 now I’m terrified someone’s going to start copying my stuff, except that would imply my stuff is worth stealing LOL I would totally contribute to a GoFundMe to get your stuff back from WP though. That’s BS. Anyway too much to say. Have a great night all of y’all

    • Haha, very kind of you to say and I thank you 😊 I’m glad the comments aren’t in spam at least it seems like so many people got them yesterday forwarded to spam and it’s like 😡 haha. The problem I guess is there’s so much material and ideas out there and someone takes it if it becomes popular or tries to use the idea themselves so that’s always frustrating.   20. I thought the Daily Prompts were meant to inspire bloggers who were stuck for something to say. But lately, I’ve found the prompts to be either repetitive or simply tedious.

    “What do we want?!”

    “Interesting prompts!”

    “When do we want them?!”

    “NOW!!”

  21. Hi Laura😊. Good rant! Thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I haven’t much to say or moan about, other than I agree with you on the prompts. I just ignore them now completely. I don’t want to sound arrogant in anyway, but they are quite shallow, unthoughtful, and uninspiring a lot of the time. If people love them…great👍, but I find them a bit lacking. Hope you are all well😊. If it all gets too annoying…just grab yourself a mug☕😊👍

    • Thanks Jay lol 😆 glad you liked it and enjoyed reading it. Yes the prompts are pretty bad. I don’t think you sound arrogant at all! They really are so uninspiring sometimes and you have to kinda work your own thing in there at times but it definitely doesn’t make me feel compelled to write.   23. Good one Laura, next time can you note down pictures too. Some pictures load, others don’t. They load on email and not on WP or vice versa. Oh yes, comments don’t show up, just do the disappearing act.

    Btw, the pictures you generate are lovely.

      • although, Laura… i hope you know a thing or two: why is that when we block a follower, it’s *us* who won’t see them and they can still hover around! we can keep removing them, they’ll keep refollow. i tried to report but we have to present all sorts of proofs. i mean what if they harras me outside of wp, and on wp they act so sweet and all… any take? i’ll try grow a thick skin but i am a sheet of tissue 😣

I haven’t blocked on here but I’ve considered it but I figure it’s useless because I’m sure they’ll still interact with some people that overlap in followings. I’m sorry you’re going through this. 😔 it’s gotta make it unpleasant for you on here. I feel you on the “hovering” around, especially when you’d rather not interact with that person 😫

  25. Nice rant! 🤗 I’ve had legit commenters end up in spam. I heard if you comment on a lot on different blogs, it’s more likely your comment will be marked as spam. The bugs and new levels of bugginess keep us on our toes. 😂 Love your presence here, glitches and all.

    • Hi MM! 😊 glad you liked the rant 🤗 happy to see you! And…the thing is, if I have 20 blogs I like, and I have something to say (I usually do) I’ll say it. I took a break for a few hours yesterday and it was still happening. Meanwhile you have people who will spam like comments sometimes 😫 how does that not slow things down? It does definitely keep us on our toes 🤣 and thank you, always happy to have your presence here as well 🥰

  27. Most of us blog for enjoyment. All the obstacles definitely don’t make this fun. Maybe WB is trying to stimulate our brains.

    My biggest frustration is difficulty liking or commenting on other people’s blogs. We can’t interact without those abilities. Hugs to you, Laura Dear.

  34. Well I have no idea how you blog on a mobile for one thing! It’s hard enough for me on a laptop. And I don’t have any of the fancy plug-ins cos my budget plan of choice is VERY limited! But I’m with you and I don’t think you come across as harsh at all but maybe that says more about me!!

    • You know it’s weird. I don’t use any plugins either. I think I started on mobile because I’d be at work and on breaks I’d try to write posts. My posts were always on the shorter side and I do think most of the time they are, and that has something to do with mobile. Always going going.   35. Did I miss something? Blog strike??? What is going on here on WordPress? I have not experienced any glitches or spam. When you comment on my blog, I receive it, and I reply. I’m using my laptop for posting and communicating with my fellow bloggers. Hmmm..???

  38. “GTFO 🏃‍♀️”, 🤣 I need to start using this in my signature block. Spam… yes, that is a problem. I check my spam folder every day, but someone commented on one of my posts and it got lost in cyberspace, only to appear in my spam folder a month later. That was something.

    • Interesting! Yep, they are repetitive. Is WP telling you you can’t answer the prompts because you already did, or does it just seem like a highly similar prompt to one you answered like a month ago? Could be either haha 🤣

      • I think it’s soon to become a subject of great interest. I’d like to get other writers to assist me. I realize I have very little content up, but I switched careers years ago and I’m just getting back to my roots. I have been buried in research and getting ready for the next steps
        . I’m going to be doing a massive project covering myriad subjects. If you’re interested, it sounds lofty but the goal is to evolve the human race. Interested? If so, what would you say your main subjects of interest or expertise are?

  47. I’ve legit went out to Google for prompts or came up with my own because the WP prompts are so lame. Good to see I’m not the only one who has noticed. Plus they repeat every few months or less. I believe we should have the ability to submit our own, it should be a community generated thing.
