Sorry to ruffle any feathers.

How I feel when the prompt is “meh!”

It’s not to say they don’t have some great accomplishments, either. But I really don’t admire any athletes, especially ones who get paid obscene amounts of money, nor do I idolize any social media stars, celebrities, politicians, or anything/anyone of the like.

Everyone is human and capable of great things, whether they are a nepotism baby or not.

Controversial?

I’d rather interview my cat, honestly…PS – Happy Caturday!

Sure, why not.

Or maybe, I’d rather admire more of the people who work everyday jobs and are stuck in “middle class” (which isn’t even middle class anymore) trying to make it day to day and struggling to make ends meet.

That is more deserving of respect than anything, in my opinion.

Anyways, this got way off track.

I’ve got no problems with people who play sports for a living – more power to ‘em.

It’s just not something I specifically care to write about.

Now pass the coffee so I can shut up and stop yammering.

  3. Most of those injuries are because they don’t prepare properly or live like healthy members of a community. I have volunteered my services in football for years and the greatest achievements have been seeing younger men make a life for themselves and look after a family. I grew up in such disproportionate privilege (and entitled cowardice) that I walked out at 17. Half of them aren’t even that good. It isn’t drugs in sport… it is drugs AND sport. One leader I love was the captain of the Watford football club. Troy Deeney would be a man and a leader if no sport existed. Absolute leader.

  4. Stirring the pot are we? I agree with you on the fact that the over paid and spoiled should not receive the recognition they get but that’s what society has fallen into, forgetting the people that make all their fame and fortune happen. So stir the coffee pot and pour another just for shits and giggles. ☕☕☕

    • Trust me, if this prompt was “name the politician you admire the most and why” it would also be a problem lol 😂 try not to stir too much shit up, but hey! 👋 they want me to be honest, and authentic right? Lol. Who is “they” anyways!? Yep. Pouring me another cup now! And yeah, I don’t have a problem with sports at all, it’s just the glorifying and the $$$$$ but that also happens with politicians, social media stars, and some of them are like “for what?” 🤔 Anyyyyyywayyysss I digress, thanks for listening to my yammering and let’s get that Starbucks French roast! ☕️ ☕️

  5. I anticipate a lot of folks will have similar replies, as most athletes are seen as overpaid babies, and some indeed are. I do, however, respect the dedication some put forth to perfect their craft. But, I feel that way about a lot of musicians, businessmen (and women!), musicians, etc. All the way to the local carpenter who perfects his woodworking to a T. It’s all relative I guess.

    • I get where you’re coming from of course. You do find people who are highly dedicated and highly skilled, so that isn’t without recognizing their accomplishments to be sure. And I agree, also there’s plenty of people who probably should be paid more than what they are for their hard work. It’s all relative, indeed

      • A lot of jobs are thankless for sure. I’m not defending the outrageous salaries as much as acknowledging that most of society is one of the symptoms. I admit, I contribute in my own way to some degree.
        I try to avoid the influencer culture if at all possible though.

  9. I’ve never understood the idolization of famous people. Admire some talents, sure. But not to the point of idolatry. I’ve met too many famous people to think that they are anything but mostly normal people. They are not gods.

    If they put on airs, well… Then they are jackasses on top of being normal people. Being famous does nothing for getting me to like someone. In fact, they have something to prove to me if they are famous… They have to prove that they can act like decent human beings.

  11. Not too controversial, as the way our society rewards effort is wacko in general. It’s a little the problem of what people pay attention to, but mostly I think corporate culture decides. Sports is big business.

    • Very true! My stepdad always said whoever has the most money is the team that’s going to win. True in lots of cases. And I don’t have a problem too with people wanting to chill and watch sports for entertainment. I get it. But also, there’s no balance in some ways of how someone who has a regular job has to fight to save money, whereas they get paid stupid amount lol 😆

  17. I completely understand where you’re coming from. It’s true that our society often places celebrities and athletes on pedestals, which can sometimes overshadow the more meaningful aspects of our lives, like our relationship with God. I explored a similar theme in my second book, Take Me Out With The Crowd. In it, I discuss how people tend to idolize athletes and celebrities, treating them as if they are more important than spending time with God. This shift towards idolatry can detract from the true purpose of worship and spiritual growth.

    While these individuals may have impressive accomplishments, elevating them to a level of worship is problematic and detracts from the central role that God should play in our lives. Instead of idolizing figures who entertain us, we should focus on what truly matters and recognize the value in the everyday struggles and triumphs of those around us, especially those working hard in less glamorous roles.

    I agree, the real heroes are often those in the “middle class” working tirelessly to make ends meet. Their resilience and dedication are deserving of admiration and respect.

    On a lighter note, happy Caturday! If you’re looking for a break from all the deep thoughts, interviewing your cat sounds like a delightful idea. Enjoy your coffee, and thanks for sharing your thoughts.

  22. Employ means “to use” the employee means the “the used”.So really cannot
    go far in life when you being used to help other people realize thiere dreams.As athletes they are intertainers living their lives and getting money for it.

  24. Interesting blog post Laura. To be fair, you are right that all people are capable of achieving greatness and you know what, God is able to ensure we all achieve great things.

    As for me, I believe in myself and I try to have a positive attitude and have a positive outlook on life. Yes, life is hard guys but we need to hang in there and trust in God because he helps and protects us from bad enemies trying to beat us down.

    Lastly, I appreciate your input about this daily prompt.

  28. Agreed! The middle class is where the sweat and blood meet the road so to speak. Everyday people are the ones we should look up to, they not only serve or provide a service, but support us, and are us in most cases. It’s nice to know I don’t stand alone when I feel that admiring athletes for their sports acumen or celebrities for their fame is weird. I will add one final thought, there are those in the upper echelons that do wonderful things for others, Harrison Ford who flies rescue and helps fight fires for example. That’s not something that was really publisized.
