Seasons change, time goes slowly 

Memories fade, with whispers ghostly 

Loss so profound, bleak and pale 

To make a connection beyond the veil 

Fragments of fractured soul forsaken 

Pieces of me with you were taken 

On that dark day, Iโ€™ll never forget

The hardest loss Iโ€™ve ever had yet

Years go by, but pain never fades

Sadness of memories that can no longer be made

Darkness looms, even in sunlight 

Agony cuts deeper than any sharp knife 

Wanting to bleed out of withered veins 

Praying harder to take away heartache

Visceral reaction, an uncontrollable rage

Of life that is lost at such a young age

Echoes of laughter, fading away 

Tears of joy never coming to play 

Shell of life, with former self gone 

Unraveling anger of what went wrong

If I could make it right, you know I would

Perhaps in the next life, I finally should

When we meet again, my little love

Iโ€™ll see you in the sky, smiling from above

  1. the sayings about “time”. yeah, it can give a different perspective…but that pain. it’s there forever. i often wonder if that’s the only way a deep love can communicate with you. i decided that if it was, I DON’T WANT to heal from the pain, I will welcome it to break me down to the bone, and that i want it to fuse to my soul so i can always feel that communication. I’ll just be quiet about it. Mike

    • Thank you for saying this ๐Ÿ™ it is as they say – it is better to feel that love than to never have had it.
      Fusing the soul to the communication/connection, absolutely. It leaves a huge lump in my throat even thinking of it. No need to be quiet. Your words meant a lot to me, and they are incredibly appreciated

    • Thank you so much Stephanie ๐Ÿ™ sometimes I think a lot of people know me pretty well and Iโ€™m fairly open, but then I realize thereโ€™s a lot I never really do say, especially about the past. I try not to dwell there too much, you know? I donโ€™t know, posts like this are hard, but Iโ€™m trying to become better at it. I was told recently Iโ€™m internalizing too much. Thank you โค๏ธ your words always mean so much to me

    This is the power of poetry – to celebrate happy moments, be playful with language, but also to help process deeper, heavier emotions – for both writer and reader. Thank you for sharing, Laura. Although the relationship to the people I’ve lost is different than what you shared here, I still felt that my emotions are understood by another person.

    • Thank you Nicole ๐Ÿ™ wise words there about the power of poetry and how it allows us to connect and process. Iโ€™m definitely going through a purging/healing phase it seems. And loss is profound in many of ways, with many different relationships, so Iโ€™m glad you felt understood ๐Ÿ™
