An Ode to “Nice” Guys…

This is a submission for Kevin’s No Theme Thursday.

In the land of social media

Always on his phone

Posting his memes

And all of his poems

He’s got no game

Yet he still tries too hard

Says he’s a nice guy

Girls throw up their guard

But he continues on

Ranting each day:

“I’m such a nice guy!”

To all their dismay

Maybe eventually

He’ll realize the truth

When she’s not interested

It isn’t just a fluke

He picks up the phone

Calling his latest fling

To his wild surprise

The phone doesn’t ring

🚫 BLOCKED! 🚫

“Was I too spammy?”

He wonders, not even a clue

So he makes a decision

To help alleviate his blues

“Chinese food,” he orders

To drown out his heartbreak

Eating the pain away

Until his stomach aches

Waiting for his order

Egg rolls and fried rice

Maybe he’ll figure out

He isn’t always so nice

“All women are the same,”

He bemoans his fate

Never seeing his own errors

His self-loathing awaits

And so he continues

On and on again

In search of love

Of more than a friend

Writing his poems

And posting his memes

Maybe one day he’ll realize

He’s not as nice as he seems

And to be fair, there’s girls out there like this too, OK? 😆 But how many times have you heard the story from both sides, “I’m such a nice person and everyone treats me like dirt.” Lol.

  6. Cheers. I like to be left alone because I like feeling safe. Too many… idk. Pretty sure some people have thought it was an opportunity… they’re usually the worst and they get bored of what they start. I think I followed you initially because of Lilith… I like the myth of Adam having a wife before Eve, and Lilith is combust my MC

  10. A poet and a nice guy don’t mix, because it’s a love affair usually stronger with the other, I often wonder in the cancel culture etc.. era what’s a man to do though? If you don’t say nothing then you are dumb, however if you edify yourself you are Arrogant what’s the middle ground? I guess be a poet Nice Monk.

      • Women who write counter with being as respected as the male counterpart, for instance a man can say he is nice as a woman can say she is beautiful and just showcasing a God given gift, however a man has to say he really cares and is nice because being a poet some people don’t see a man with creativity and good presentation, or a woman with a strong pen game and beautiful it’s like neither Sex can have two things at once without a attracting a question mark. You never gonna hear a woman be a great writer and say she is nice. Because on the other side we just assume
