…about enjoying it? 😂

Honestly, I think a lot of us have a love / hate relationship with it to some extent.
However, instead of turning this into a rant, I’ll just answer the question with some snark thrown in here and there.

I’ll give you three things, since three is my favorite number and that always seems to be the well-rounded answer for me.
Also because that’s how much energy I’ve decided I’m dedicating to this prompt…
Without further ado (enough yammering!)
The Purge

Writing allows for us to purge our thoughts and emotions. To heal. To release trauma. As my medium loves to call it, “soul puke.” Get it all out, it’s good for you! (And if I see anyone writing “soul puke” on their blog, I will know exactly where you got it from!) 😂 But seriously, writing, journaling, whatever you want to call it, can be almost like a form of therapy.
The Escape

Much like reading, writing is an escape. You can create your own universe, with the characters you want – any, all, and everything is of your own imagination, plus it allows you to stretch your creative muscle. With creativity stifled, we often feel much more anxious. It’s good to allow the brain that freedom to really let loose and enjoy the escape from reality. I don’t want to hear about the news or politics, I hear enough about it in my daily life, and believe me, I’ve seen enough devastation to last me a lifetime. Let me have my creative outlet without any of the outside world distractions seeping in and keeping us all rigid.
The Connection

I’ve connected with some amazing people (read: YOU GUYS) through writing. Thank you for sharing laughter and joy with me. So many emotions we go through daily on here that we wouldn’t say out loud to our family or our coworkers. I often shy away from sad or difficult things, or even things I just don’t want to have to explain deeper (see: comments closed) and most of you have always made me feel so welcome and I’m always appreciative that you read my crazy musings.
So, thank you. I’m grateful for you.
Now, what to do about those 89 drafts?!

Into the trash? 🗑️
Burn in the dumpster fire of the void, never to be seen again for all of eternity?!

Maybe.
*delete*
Probably.
Ughhhhh!
There! Aren’t you happy I answered with something different than “Because I was *~DeSTiNeD~* to be a writer” ? LOL 🤣
God, typing like that gives me a headache.

I have a draft novel that is currently on hiatus at the moment. It does not mix well with my poetry writing, and it can be difficult to put down my quill at times. So it is frustrating even when I am not writing it.

I feel this. I was just saying how I’ve had a novel in the works for 3 years now. It’s in the back of your mind, but there’s “other stuff” going on. It is indeed quite frustrating!
LikeLiked by 2 people
I completely agree with you 💯👍🏻. You’ve captured every feeling and emotion I experience with writing perfectly. Are there frustrations? Absolutely—part of us strives for perfection. But it’s the joy, peace, and sense of release that truly matter. Like you mentioned, it’s a form of therapy, whether or not it’s what the doctor ordered. I know I always feel so much better when I hit that publish button.
Great post, and the pictures are fantastic!

Thanks Willie 😊 very kind of you to say 🙏 I do think it helps us purge out a lot for sure, and can be healing if we allow it to. Releasing those emotions and letting them flow through. Hope your weekend is going well 😊 and thank you for your comment, always so appreciated

Nice post and I agree with you on all of it. What I find sometimes is that language is limiting, there’s not enough words to fully express sometimes. Soul Puke – I like that especially, I think someone I know called their blog Mind Barf, similar thing.
LikeLiked by 2 people
That’s very true! LOL omg “Mind Barf” is hilarious 😂 and honestly it makes so much sense. It does feel like a literal purging of thoughts and sometimes I get what you’re saying. It’s there, but you can’t quite grasp the correct word lol.

The cutting room floor the ideas that sat by the trash can on the device, sometimes it’s a roller coaster ride of what you say think and feel and put out to the universe and then the other side where you feel hey. That might be corny or I dunno.
However I view writing just speaking for myself like water and Bruce Lee had a quote where he said be water my friend, it’s not always the taste However the cleanse gets so much out
LikeLiked by 1 person
Not corny, makes sense. Sometimes it’s all a bunch of stuff clustered in my head and then it’s a zillion and one ideas and then you just have to get it down and then sometimes it still sucks lol 😂

You are welcome Laura😊. Okay, I’ll await that read patiently with intrigue! I have always thought there is something fascinating about the number 3. Maybe it’s because it is the minimum number required for 3-dimensional geometry of everything🤔? Big questions for your book maybe😎. Thanks, my day has been good…Hope yours has too Laura☕

The ‘Soul Puke’ I love it. The first picture is great as is all of your art including your writing. This post will resonate with all that read it Laura. And to escape with words to paper is the best outlet I can imagine where a lot of thoughts hit the paper and then the trash. Happy Sunday my friend.

I started this blog as an outlet for all things sex education because I believe we need to discuss these things without shame. Them over the years look how it turned out as my sanctuary for letting emotions and thoughts run free in the wild! It’s so lovely to connect with some amazing woman like you Laura, I wish you have a joyful day! 💗✨

The Escape and The Connection are two I can also identify with. In fact, the reason I’ve been so quiet on the blogging front recently, is that I ‘escaped’ to my own wee world, working on two ‘gift books’ for a publisher and my own projects (three books on the go!)
The Connection is invaluable to writers, I feel. Though we’ve not had much interaction this past year, I know there are several like-minded writers in the unofficial CLOG group (Comedy Literature Only Group) that not only produce some excellent reads, but give fair, dependable and honest feedback.

Nice! Thanks for sharing your thoughts Cee Tee, it’s certainly always nice to connect with like-minded individuals over writing, especially when it comes to humor as well. Would be interested to know more about your group, sounds cool. I think people need to be more open to honest feedback on their writing. Thanks for sharing again and also congrats on the work for the books, that’s amazing! 😊

In all seriousness, I think I have 3 drafts now, and they are all new posts with one of Kevin’s images in them, but nothing else. I should rename the folder ‘good intentions’. 🙂

This is beautiful, and I can relate on all three. Since, I’m new in blogging and such, I’m still building my tribe, but I’m trying to hold that “lantern” over my head real high to be found by more.
Speaking of the “soul puke”. Last night, I read aloud my first chapter of my draft ( year long draft ) novel that I titled “Arpeggio of the Soul” which is quite literally the puke of the soul. No, I’m not kidding.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Haha, I thought “Arpeggio” had to do with music. Very interesting, thank you for sharing 😊 and glad you can relate, it’s always nice when people can resonate with the things you write 🙏
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes, “Arpeggio” is a musical term since the character in my novel is a pianist. And there is a description of soul puking ( damn, I like this expression 🙂 in chapter 1 just to give the reader the cozy feelings.

I feel the same way about “soul puke!” And what a hilarious thing to call it, but it’s true. For me, I’ve always felt like writing is a compulsion. If I write it down, I don’t have to have it wandering around my brain anymore. 🌺🩷😂
LikeLiked by 1 person
Haha! Glad you could relate, Kymber! It really is so true, incredibly. It does feel compulsory yes. And once you purge it, it eases a bit, lol. I like how you said it. It’s like a “brain dump” for you. Perfectly stated 🩷🙏

I 100% agree with you. Writing is an escape and therapeutic.
Here’s two quotes:
“Why am I compelled to write?… Because the world I create in the writing compensates for what the real world does not give me. By writing I put order in the world, give it a handle so I can grasp it. I write because life does not appease my appetites and anger… To become more intimate with myself and you. To discover myself, to preserve myself, to make myself, to achieve self-autonomy. To dispell the myths that I am a mad prophet or a poor suffering soul. To convince myself that I am worthy and that what I have to say is not a pile of shit… Finally I write because I’m scared of writing, but I’m more scared of not writing.” – Gloria Anzaldúa
“This tremendous world I have inside of me. How to free myself, and this world, without tearing myself to pieces. And rather tear myself to a thousand pieces than be buried with this world within me.” – Franz Kafka
