Divine Retribution

This is a submission for Kevin’s No Theme Thursday.

Against the night, her thoughts did rage

Lighting her candles, setting the stage

Conjuring demons and angels alike

Readying her armor for a spiritual plight

Descending the depths of hell she would

To release weary souls of all she could

One taken from this realm far too soon

Air eerily stirring under the full moon

In a fortnight, this bleak Earth would fall

Ravens afar screeching loud warning calls

Hoping he would make it in time before then

He would be King, this land he would defend

She whispered ever softly into the night:

β€œCome to me, my love, it’s your time to fight.”

Gasping for air, from the depths he arose

Sent down to the Underworld by nefarious foes

A bold warrior he was, betrayed in the past

Unjustly left for dead, aside his body was cast

Only one woman would bring his spirit back

For her he would fight, paint this world black

In time he would have his final retribution

Deaths would be painful, a divine execution

Revenge on his tongue and fire in his heart

For the upper world, he swiftly departs

β€œI’m coming, my Queen,” he whispered aloud

β€œTheir fate will be brutal,” he angrily vowed

Blood must be shed, tears they will weep

A battle to the death, with promises to keep

Justice would be his, they would finally pay

No one would be spared, so come what may

An eye for an eye, their punishment cruel

For in the end, King and Queen would rule

Yes, I do believe that some revenge is justified.

Call it karma, if you’d like. All in divine timing.

Thank you for reading.
