I wish I had a good, solid, concrete answer for this.

Even now as Iβm answering, Iβm in sleep deprivation mode.
The perils of working night shift.
βJust get off of nights, then.β
No problem! With the flick of my wrist and the twitch of my nose!

*poof*
Hmmmm.

π£ βIβve landed in Neverland it seems. Here, everyone is well-rested, gets exactly how many hours of sleep they need every single night, always has good dreams, and wakes up without a single ache or pain.
All un-caffeinated.β
Haha. Yeah, right.
Sleep is so necessary for everyday functioning, and yet it seems to elude many of us.
I wish it were as simple as pushing an on/off button.

The people who can lay their heads down and immediately fall asleep, you have no idea how truly blessed you are.
Same exact time, every single night?
A sleep routine? Whatβs that?
Hah! If only it could be so easy.
As this post goes live, Iβm at work (if the scheduler works like it’s supposed to), and then Iβll be home tomorrow trying to catch some π€ a never-ending cycle, it seems!
Have a great night, all!
Sweet dreams π΄

I can relate 100%

Old military guy I knew used to say that sleep is a bad habit that *will* be overcome. Besides… He would add… There’s plenty of time to catch up on your sleep after you’re dead. π€£

If someone has never worked night shift, they need to STFU with all their preconceptions and helpful suggestions. They don’t get it, and they never will. I seriously think it should be a law that everyone has to work a night shift for at least 90 consecutive days in their lifetime. π
And yes, I am salty about this freaking topic.

π π yes, Iβm very passionate about this topic as well
Some people literally canβt wrap their heads around a 24/7 job, which you and I both work. Not easy, and days forever will bitch aboutβ¦whatever it is thatβs up their ass currently at the moment.
That would be nice, wouldnβt it? So people can finally feel what itβs like.
But you have your βoh no, no. I canβt do nights,β people.
lol ok then STFU and be glad for the people you got working overnight so you donβt have to. Lolol
End rant? Maybe?

I think that’s the most frustrating aspect is that no one really appreciates the people who do it. And don’t get me going on some family and friends. π

It’s usually that or the perception that the minor leagues work nights and don’t really know our jobs well.

I used to be in a job where I decided to go on night shift. After just over 2 years doing them, my sleep patterns were mucked up at some point. And about every couple of months I would have one day where I slept constantly day and night. My crash out that I realise I was having now, but I didn’t know then.
There’s no way I would do nights again. I feel for those that do them. Especially when sleep is mucked up.

Yes! Mucked up sleep is never good, mine has been for years! Itβs definitely rough and takes a toll on you. And thank you for understanding π itβs such a hard thing to get people to realize I think, how much it really affects you

I was so guilty of being up late, saying as soon as I get home I’m gonna sleep and before you know, it’s midnight, did various shifts and the night shift was only cool if I worked with the right folks, because in them late hours I need some comedians and entertainment which more often than not I was part of. Sleep is fantastic when it happens except if you sleep so long and wake up and forget the day or time.

In my case, sleep deprivation usually ends in a total nervous meltdown, with devastating effects. I wish I could be healthier and therefore open to more work opportunities. Still, I guess the majority of us wish for what we can’t have in our lives…
Sleep well, Laura, and recharge your batteries to the max! π

Love that neverland, Laura β€ … I did nights for years and loved them! Quieter, less crazy (believe it or not), magical times, cooler too. It paid more and I always got along with the night crew way better. That being said, I love sleep and once I get to sleep, please for all that’s holy, don’t disturb or a true hellion could come out! And that’s already highly caffeinated. LOL! Also, can’t sleep when it’s hot … going to be 108 and higher this week!

I have worked every shift in healthcare ! I can truly say the third shift did not go well with my body. My sleep was the most off on third shift and I felt like I was always tired . I currently work 3 twelves. I absolutely love it. Itβs a very long 3 days but I have 4 off and I get so much done and I actudlly feel more rested having 4 days off then I do having just two days off ( working 5 eights ). However , working thirds was def the most peaceful time to work. Def not as crazy and hectic as first shifts

Thanks for sharing your perspective! 3 twelves are awesome and thatβs what Iβve wanted for the last however many months, hoping to get back to that or something similar soon. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts!
