So, how do you answer this without sounding like a complete and total self-absorbed butthole?
I mean, clearly each one of us knows we’re good at something or another, maybe even great or better than some at a specific thing, but isn’t there something special about being a bit humble?
I also often find that people who think they are exceptional at most things really….aren’t. You hear them brag (or worse, humblebrag) and then later on you realize hmmm, they ain’t all it, after all.
Also there’s the caveat that someone is always better than you at said thing. It’s not to dissuade anyone from talking about what they’re actually good at, it’s just such an open-ended question that it leaves room for so much interpretation.
The prompts kill me sometimes. Either they are way too specific or far too broad.
I could say I’m a great nurse, but there’s inevitably one who’s smarter or better at their job than I am.
I could say I’m a good writer, but there are so many great ones out there. 🙂
I could say I’m a great hiker, and I’ve done a lot of strenuous hikes, but someone has gone longer, harder, and definitely completed a more treacherous climb than me.
I could say I’m a good diver, but someone has no doubt traveled a depth way deeper than me, and probably come up with the bends or maybe even no longer exists due to said dive. Yikes. Is it worth it, to be the best, or the most well-known, then? Especially if you are not here to enjoy said achievement.
I could say I’m well-developed spiritually, but if we are not continually learning there, (and we always are, and forever will be, if you’re on that path) then we are not truly as spiritual as we think. Plus, spiritual snobs are the worst kind of people you could ever encounter. 😆 Ask me how I know, or don’t, actually – that’s a rant for another post, another time.
What I hope people can take away from this is knowing their worth, that they are capable of many things big and small, and that everyone is good at something.
We are often are own worst critics, and what people see on the outside is often much different than the harsh way we sometimes perceive ourselves.
Be loving to yourself, always. Change your mindset, and vibe higher.
So, did I answer the question?
I hope you are having a great weekend, and if you are having a long one, please take a moment to remember the reason why. 🙏
As always, thank you for reading the musings of my mind. You are undoubtedly appreciated, not only by me, but others as well. 😊

Well said. 👏👏
I don’t do well at “selling myself” the way a lot of folks can, so I get not wanting to sound like an egoist lol

Thank you! ☺️
I’m not a “sell yourself” type either. You either love me or hate me, usually no in-between, and I don’t bother trying to convince anyone, because the smart ones can see through 😊
But yeah, this question is kinda “eh,” haha.
Daily prompts, what else do we expect? 😆

Nothing but the finest from WP as always lol
Yeah it’s a tough one. Like you said- too broad or too specific.
This one’s tough to navigate without sounding like a toolbag.

I agree with you there, yeah. People could probably yammer off 1000 things they are supposedly “good” at, meanwhile the humble ones don’t want to offend. 😆 funny how that works, sometimes.

For sure. Meanwhile, I can tell you 1000 things I’m bad at 🤣

That’s the way it goes, right? That’s how we always look at it, and say “yeah I suck at this,” “why can’t I be better at that”
There’s actually a very interesting psychological phenomenon I love to reference, I’m not sure if I’ve ever done it before on my blog, however. It’s called the Dunning-Kruger effect, which basically states that most people who are not very good at something often overestimate their abilities, while people who are actually good at it underestimate their abilities.
Unconscious incompetence, gotta love it. 😆

I’ve heard of it and often find more of the former cases than the latter unfortunately lol

Laura, thank you so much for linking me to your post, I’m glad to hear you value my creative attempt so high, I don’t think I’m a great writer though 🙂 Don’t diminish you wonderful skills!
I agree with the most things you wrote, as usual, for I think the same ❤ We may have many talents but there is always a person in the world who does it better, than you do. I guess wordpress wants to offer us a job, that is why they ask us these questions.
All in all, you wrote a great post, Laura, it's so genuine, humble and deep ❤
Let's vibe higher, for sure 🙂

Ive always had trouble putting my good qualitys forward(tanks family and the aussie tall poppy idiosyncrasy). However i have worked very hard to be able to round out 3 things im brilliant at. As you implied we cant all have world records or best sellers but if we have that confidence in our favourite things and can be proud of them i say job well done.
What did I say and how can I actually implement it in my life so i believe it not just spout it out…..hmmmmm

This is a very thoughtful comment, thank you for that 😊 I agree we probably have some idea of what we’re good at, and there’s nothing wrong with being good at things. Definitely confidence is very important in being able to be successful in life and all the things we’d like to achieve. Thanks again for sharing your point of view! 😊
