What sacrifices have you made in life?
Sometimes, I really think the daily prompt is trifling as hell.
How do you go from simple crap and then flip it to deep and complex?

I mean…really?
Anyways, I’ll stop with my righteous indignation at this moment and as I’m typing this out, I’m not sure I’m even going to post this. We’ll see how I feel once I get to the end. 😆 I could make this silly as all hell and talk about my figurative sacrifices I’ve made in life as a joke or whatever.
Blood sacrifices or something to the rain gods, since it’s so unholy hot here the last few days. 😇
Sacrifice to the grounds of coffee so that they are kept fresh and the caffeine potent. ☕️ Yesss, I need it!

Should I go deep…who wants to see me go deep? Raise of hands?
How about funny? We can do funny.
I like to mix them sometimes, if I can.
First off – even the most selfish of people have made sacrifices.
“What do you mean I can’t have everything given to me on a silver platter because I’m just, so, goddang special? I’m a special snowflake and all should cater to meeee.”
Hah. No…
“I have to have chicken tonight instead of beef? Whaaaatt!” How’s that for a gourmet stomach?
A lot of the feeling like we have to sacrifice deals with the ego. The egotic self.
I had a fucked up childhood and adolescence because I had to essentially deal with being the sole parent.
That’s a sacrifice. One I didn’t have much of a choice in. However, I’m not griping about it. It made me a better person. It also made me realize what boundaries are, what I will and won’t tolerate, even from people I love.
Yes, love from a distance. Sometimes necessary.
In essence, though, if I do something for the betterment of someone else, in someone else’s favor, a sacrifice if you will – it is because I wanted to.
I think the sacrifice we hand over the most is our time. Time that we could spend doing other things besides pining away with uselessness which is detrimental to our wellbeing. Wah, wah wah. So what, some people enjoy wasting time.
Until you don’t have anymore.
Sacrifice our time at work, yeah there’s a great one. But we also have to work to live. (Not live to work! Please, please.)
We hold back so much of ourselves due to our ego. Fear-based. Not love-based. Not being authentic. Wanting control, but really having none of it, after all. It is an illusion.
Sacrifice your time loving your life, just being, enjoying, resting, loving, flowing, moving your body, engaging your mind, learning, reading, writing, creating, helping, healing.
Those are the things we need to focus sacrificing our time and energy on.

Not entitlement or selfishness, unless we are talking about self-love, which we always need to put first. There is a difference, though!
I hear you scoffing at me now.
“So, are you telling me you sacrificed your own ego, annoying lady who claims to have the old soul,” and blah, blah, blah.
No. 😊 not fully, anyways. I’m a work in progress. As we all should be.
One must ponder, though – if they are an old soul, how many other old souls do they know in this lifetime and how much karma have they accumulated, really?
One to contemplate. Not for too long, perhaps. Lest we sacrifice too much of our precious time pondering the intricacies of life’s absolutely hilarious way the dance of free will and fate love to weave together.
Dang, I wrote a novel.
Anyways, the one thing I’m not sacrificing is sleep, ok? I already don’t get enough of that!
P.S. – it’s raining now as I hit “publish.” 😉
The weekend is now upon us, and it is my greatest wish for you that you are blessed with tranquility, relaxation, and good health.
Thank you, as always, for reading the musings of my mind. You are appreciated.

Brilliant, funny and poignant just like you always are. Well stated and accurate. 😊

There are a few things in here that just got me right in the gut with a resounding YES. 1 – that the feeling of sacrifice can entail ego, which does seem to need offerings once in a while to keep going, but shouldn’t be leading the show. And 2 – No sacrificing sleep here either, if I can help it!
Also you DO mix the genres, very well! Fun to ride the energy of this post. 🙂

Thank you! So glad you enjoyed the ride, I was definitely a little all up and down when I wrote this, not really sure where I was going and then it came together 😊
And yes, I’m not perfect yet at the dissolution of the ego, but I’m trying to get there. We have our Earthly desires, and we decided to come here in some ways to experience them. It’s just moving forward, with some back steps at times. 😊
Yes!! I’ll be going back for more sleep later! Need it to heal, haha 😆

Hahah thank you! 😊 🙏 you are always building me up so much, such a lovely and beautiful feeling and so deeply appreciated ❤️ haha, yes, Karma is definitely coming through a lot recently, Stephanie’s post got me thinking about the accumulation of it, anyways. Seems you can’t have sacrifices without some Karma as it is. I hope you are sleeping and keeping well too, you most certainly deserve it! (I’ll be going back for more sleep later!) lol 😉

Life is full of choices, if you chose one thing, you sacrifice another. It’s a totally different storry when life throws you in a certain situation, like you being a sole parent. You have to sacrifice a lot, no matter how you feel about it. But then again, if you do something out of love, it’s not a sacrifice, as I said already on Stephanie’s blog. Have a nice sleep!

I Dear Laura, I can relate so much to what you wrote about difficult childhood as I went through the same!
Wonderful post, lots of engaging, captivating descriptions, and jokes, reads like music simply. I agree that each step of ours is a sacrifice, each decision means that we refuse, reject some option.
Sacrificing ego is also a beautiful one, but there are even some psychology articles (accessible in JSTOR and Google Scholar if I’m not mistaken) that state that the number of narcissists becomes vaster and vaster
We recently talked about that anyway 😉
And in my firm opinion, love is impossible without sacrifices…

Thank you so much for your warm and generous comments, as always 🙏 I always appreciate what you have to say. And thank you for your support. Happy to know my writing resonates with you in that manner 😊
Ahhh, narcissism…haha. I believe these traits can be in all of us, but yes, some share that more profoundly than others (some right on this very platform even, I believe) haha. 😆 ah well. What can you do?
The ego is a big one. All which we struggle with from time to time, yes.
Love, it is important to flow with love without expectations and to allow. Helps with the flow of energy, I think 😊 ❤️

You writing resonates with you very often, as you you know 🙂
Haha, probably nothing. Let them live in their illusions of their exceptional importance.
Ego can also be defending, controlling part of our being, which is important, provided it is not over-grown 🙂
The love is about openness and giving away control, fully agree with you ❤

[…] I let go of my comfort of hiding in my lies and concealment for the sake of a healthy relationship and love, especially. Honesty is the basis of every relationship and even our presence on Earth. And it is my firm conviction: love is impossible without sacrifices. If you don’t give up your selfishness and, to a certain point, freedom, and the comfort of independent being, you’ll end up alone. Or your relationship will fall apart. The very fact of feeling love is transcending beyond your ego (tribute to Laura) […]

Thank you for sharing this thoughtful reflection, Laura. I deeply resonated with your insight that “the sacrifice we hand over the most is our time.” I also appreciated your reminder that if we’re going to give something as precious as our time, we should prioritize investing it in loving ourselves and being fully present in our lives. It’s such a critical perspective.
