Odin’s Call

This is a submission for Kevin’s No Theme Thursday.

God of war, wisdom, and death, Odin is revered,
Upon his steed he rides, through battles so feared.
Mighty All-father, reigning over Viking’s endless skies,
Calling warriors to Valhalla, upon their final demise.

Odin’s ravens soar above, his eyes that see all,
Traveling realms of Earth and Sky, as omens befall.
Secrets whispered, upon their blackened wings,
of mere mortal’s deeds, some hidden, unspeakable things.

Valkyries upon the sky, heeding Odin’s powerful call,
Escorting fallen Viking warriors to Valhalla’s ancient hall.
Ascending upward to the realm of the slain,
And in eternal glory, their names shall forever remain.

Odin (Óðinn) is the All-father of the Norse pantheon. He is the god of war, wisdom, magic, death, healing, and is a very important and powerful deity, embodying many different forms. He is a central figure in Norse religion and has influenced many aspects of modern popular culture and literature. Upon a Viking warrior’s death, it was the greatest honor to be called by Odin to Valhalla after battle for all eternity. Vikings will fight again when Ragnarök is upon them.

Odin also is called upon sometimes by spiritual healers who have the ability to travel between the realms of the living and the dead. Odin is said to have shamanic qualities, as he is known for his ability to shape-shift, traverse through different worlds and realms, obtaining knowledge through mystical means. He is often called upon during divination for wisdom. He is said to have given up one of his eyes in a quest for knowledge.

Odin is also the god of poets, lol. 😆 So if you happen to write a great poem, remember to show gratitude to Odin!

Thank you for reading!

  1. 👏 👏 👏 Love it! I believe Odin will also highly appreciate this poem 🙂

I’m especially happy to see that you also treat poems as an offering to Him. I do so for all of my poems 🙂

And I’m pleased, just pleased because you wrote it about Odin, for I share a close connection with this deity (which you already know, of course) 🙂

    • Thank you!! 😊 🙏
So glad you think it is worthy.
Yes, I felt your connection to him very strongly when we were talking. I’ve always been intrigued by his presence and divinity – especially as it relates to divination and healing.
I can’t wait for you to write another poem! 😊 ❤️

      • He is also a magician/shaman Deity, as well as the god of wisdom, and that has always amazed me about him. I understand him deeply in a way, in his intention of sacrificing himself (he obtained the knowledge of Runes then and bestowed it to people) or his eye in order to gain knowledge and wisdom. This speaks to me very strongly; I admire this in him. And also, isn’t it marvelous how the Norse and Germanic people valued not only strength and prowess, but wisdom above all? That it was sacred, as well as magic ❤

      • It’s awesome yes, that that level of strength and war-like qualities can also be seen as a poet, as knowledge, wisdom, as shamanic and healing and magical. That’s why I love that, because we often encompass so much more qualities than just rage or bloody brutal fighting or being a healer. I love that! ❤️
