Describe a random encounter with a stranger that stuck out positively to you.

Hardships in life often force people to level up.
I literally have to face random interactions every single day with multiple people, strangers if you will – and it can sometimes be exhausting.
Strangers….yes, they are often quite strange.
A good deal of my interactions could be considered negative. Let’s say maybe 75% for the hell of it.
People don’t feel well, are sick, broken, looking for help, lost in the cycle – can you blame them?
Not always. Definitely not.
If they are seeking help – well, awareness and acknowledgement is the first step.
There’s something to be said however, about the fact that while doing my job, I have to keep my walls up. It’s not to be unkind, unfeeling, or rude. It’s just because the intentions of people in general, are often very selfish – especially when they are looking out for their own needs. Fair enough. You also have to be immune to the chaos.
You do have your few people who want to do the right thing for themselves. Who want help, who listen, who despite it all, want to break the cycle of constant unhappiness in their life, want to be healthy and actually happy for once.
To be something more than just a vessel in this waking life.
To be there for their family. Hell, just to be there – as sometimes people have no regard for their lives or the temple that is their body a million times over. People who take accountability and don’t blame others for their self-induced behaviors, actions, and decisions.
But if I can help someone along the way in my path with what I do, whether that be with words, encouragement, just listening, implementing a strategy for them to be successful – and they actually make the effort and try, that’s all I can ask for.
When people tell you, “Thank you,” and you’ve actually made a difference in their world and it is genuine, no matter how small, well that is truly positive and special.
We’re all in this battle called life.
Let’s be clear, I’m no saint.
Making it through each and every day is a choice. Learning to love your life, despite it all, every single day is not always easy.
A glimmer of hope is sometimes the thing people need to restore their faith.
I wish you all a happy and healthy Thursday!

Very nice post!

As a nurse, I wonder if you get compassion fatigue or whether you compartmentalise things so it doesn’t overwhelm you. When I was in hospital, I saw nurses way more than doctors. They carry the hospital in ways that get overlooked. I appreciate the kind of work you do. It’s not an easy job.

Thank you so much for your appreciation, you have no idea how much that means 💜 and yes, we can often compartmentalize things in an effort to not be affected by them so harshly on a daily basis. Doctors are often quite checked out as you stated, and there’s a heavy burden at times for us to carry. Your acknowledgment of that is what makes you an amazing person, again – thank you! 🙏 😊 and I hope you are well

I’m a nurse, too, or I used to be. But I wondered this same thing.

Thank you, Laura, for all that you are and do !!!! Nurses are everything …. I’ve spent most of my life in and working around hospitals. The hard work and it truly matters, sometimes the last light one sees in this world. Very noble profession. ❤
