“Dreams feel real while we’re in them. It’s only when we wake up that we realize something was actually strange.”

What movies or TV series have you watched more than 5 times?

I enjoyed reading everyone else’s so…I decided to actually write a post and answer. 😀

I really love horror and comedy (are you at all surprised?!) however, I don’t always watch the horror genre over and over. I enjoy dark humor, but also, humor in general.

I like a little of everything, I think.

The Golden Girls

Can’t beat it. I’ve seen them all, too many times to count. A comforting show, to say the least. Everyone used to say my grandmother looked like Betty White. Plus, they’re based in Miami.

Archer

It’s inappropriate and it has all the dark humor I love.

Friends

Not necessarily because I wanted to, it was just always on at night. A calming show to ease an insomniac’s nerves, I guess. RIP Matthew Perry.

Dexter

I love serial killer and true crime shit, it’s a guilty pleasure. What can I say, so sue me. Also, based in Miami.

Inception

Such a good movie, and has to do with things I talk about all the time. Dreams and the subconscious.

The Dark Knight

I loved Heath Ledger’s performance of The Joker. The darkness of that character really shines through. “Madness is like gravity…All it takes is a little push.” Plus, I love Batman (I’m Catwoman, remember?!).

There’s more, but these were what popped in my head, so…there you have it!

      • It was the first film I felt was deeply informed by dream yoga techniques. I’ve watched it often to get back into the mindset.Have you seen Waking Life? I remember watching it years ago but details have faced so I may watch that again soon.

  1. Outside of Inception I’m not sure how we went from dreams to TV shows, hehehe. 🙂

Good list overall though. Archer is the only one we might mildly disagree on. I don’t hate it, but I think it tries too hard to be funny and crude. That’s true with most entertainment nowadays though, the art of subtlety and innuendo is lost nowadays; replaced by shock value. As an erotica author, I still appreciate when things are done artfully. 🙂

Ledger’s Joker… Honestly, AT FIRST, I hated it. Nicholson’s Joker was so much closer to the one I grew up with in comics, and I could see that the writers had NO understanding of the character. They wrote a bland two-dimensional sociopath. It took me a while, and reading a fair amount of behind the scenes stuff, to realize that the character would have been infinitely worse if not for Ledger improving and breathing life into the character. The detonator malfunction with the hospital bombing being the best example. The malfunction was real. Ledger improved that into one of the best Joker scenes in the movie.

    • Thank you! Haha, I tend to ramble on about dreams a lot. If you’re referring to the title, that’s a quote from Inception, I think. 🤪

I totally get what you’re saying about Archer. To be fair, I watched it wayyyy more (when I was younger) towards the beginning of the show, so I’m sure I’ve outgrown some of it. But I watched a lot of it at a time when I was stressed out, and it was an escape (a dumb and humorous one, but still) for me late at night when I couldn’t sleep.

How funny…I like to write erotica too 😊 nothing published (yet), though.

I love Nicholson’s Joker. I almost also listed “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” here too, but I like most of his movies.

To be fair, I enjoy most of the Joker inceptions, I suppose the Mark Hamill one is my fav. The only one I don’t care for as much is the Joaquin Phoenix Joker, but I still liked the movie for other reasons.

There’s definitely others I could’ve listed I think, but these stood out to me. 😊

      • Dreams have interested me also. Mine fight me, LOL. When I got better at seeing them and going lucid dreaming, they became WAY more realistic to thwart me. 😛

Archer… You like what you like, no need to apologize or explain away it. Sometimes a dumb escape is exactly what’s needed also.

For me, the best Joker is a tie between Nicholson, Hamill and Cameron Monaghan (AKA Cal Kestis in Star Wars) on the Gotham TV series. He nails Nicholson’s joker perfectly. If Hollywood ever cuts the kid a break so he can get real roles instead of voice acting, he will be the next Nicholson.

      • I’ve been trying to get better at lucid dreaming. I used to do it all the time. The confines of life and working have made it more difficult to get into that state. Do you use a method to get into lucid dreaming or does it just happen naturally?

Yeah Gotham is awesome!! 😊 Love that show. I stopped watching after awhile cause life got in the way, but want to get back into it.

      • OK, let’s see if WP will stop fighting me, LOL. I just got in the habit of looking for things that didn’t make sense in dreams. When my dreams were more fantastic, it was easy. The game changer was when I was confronted by a dragon in my dream. No physical world dragons = dream = in my mind and I can do what I want. I went full on Dragon Ball Super on it, LOL. After that my dreams got MUCH more realistic, AND if I realize I’m in a dream, my subconscious forces me awake instead of letting me have my fun. >( Yeah, my subconscious is evil. 😛

Gotham: Not sure where you stopped, but season 5 was a let down vs previous seasons. THe acting and writing all weren’t as good. Still better than much of TV, but not as good as before.

      • Haha, that’s very interesting! I wake up many times in the night, so I’m often in and out of lucidity, I think. I try to pick up as much as I can, and I always tell myself “I’m gonna remember this” but then sometimes it leaves by the time I’m up 😭

I think I stopped on season 4 on Gotham. I’m not sure why, lots of shows kind of lose their luster for me after the 4th season.
