Time’s Questions (a Rewind)

Daily writing prompt
Do you need time?

I don’t have any time, and I always need more.

Freakin’ time! ⏰

Since I have none to spare today, I’m sharing one of my favorite poems I wrote on the subject, which was originally a No Theme Thursday submission paired with Kevin’s beautiful images.

Time’s Questions

Image by Kevin from The Beginning at Last

Is time an illusion, a trick of the mind?

Or a man-made construct, leaving us blind?

Are we really living, or just passing each day?

Are our lives fulfilling, or leading us astray?

Questions to ponder, or simply a phase?

A life worth living, or are the memories a haze?

Do we remember, our loved ones in the end?

Do we cherish and reconcile, with our hearts to mend?

Do you believe time has passed you by?

And what happens upon your final goodbye?

Do you live everyday as great as you should?

Doing everything in your power, the best that you could?

Do you look up at the clock, and feel life is a lie?

Do you wonder where time went, and ask yourself why?

Should you change your mindset, and not worry about time?

Is wasting our existence, the greatest of crimes?

Ask yourself, what life do I want to live?

Before it’s too late, and there’s nothing left to give.

Thank you for understanding my lack of time on the blog within the last few days. Back on 12s overnight and lacking in deep rest. 😴

One more night tonight, and hopefully at the time of this airing, I’m in bed resting peacefully. 🤞

P.S. – If you saw a post go up earlier and now can’t access, sorry about that. Technical difficulties 🤦‍♀️ that’s what no sleep does to you…it’ll be back up later. 😆 🙏

  1. A brilliant and reflective poem. May you get your rest to get you through the shifts.

I wondered what went on with your other post when it wasn’t there.

    Have a good day ahead.

      1. People are different – some need to achieve something, some want just savor every minute
      2. Time is relative – it feels different when one is poor, barely scraping by, every day feeling like a year, while thirty years of tranquil prosperity pass as if it was but a week (or better: if you wait for a bathroom or you have already taken your “throne”)

      • That’s very true. There’s some years I’ve had that were horrible that I hope would pass by quickly. Hard times, hard lessons. However, I’ve also wasted and wished away time, even at work, it drags and sometimes you just want to be free. But I’m trying to be more cognizant.

    • Thanks so much Liz 🙏 finally get off this morning so I’ll be off for a few days 😊 then I can get myself sorted out lol.

I’ll have to put the other post back up later, didn’t have time to edit it yet.

Hope you have a great day too! 😊

  3. That’s a very poignant poem, Laura. How often are we guilty of wondering where the time went! And sometimes, by the time we realise it, it’ll be too late. Wasting our existence may be the greatest crime of all indeed. Beautifully written, Laura 🤩
I hope that you’re sound asleep by now! Pulling 12s overnight can be very stressful indeed. I’ve lost count of the number of comments I saw today in which you said that you’re off to sleep! Hope you are able to get some much-needed rest

  4. You ask the questions we all wonder, Laura. I’m sure you don’t have much time for yourself, to do what you enjoy. We have to put ourselves on our calendar, or we’ll never have a moment of our own. Love you much.

    • Love to you, Mary! 😊 ❤️ your words really spoke to me. We spend so much time taking care of others that we often forget ourselves. I’m off for a few days starting this morning, so I’m going to take what you said and put it into action and put myself on my calendar 😆 after some sleep, of course ❤️ thank you, again 🙏

  6. An Interesting pondering! Good thing that in the universe, time doesn’t exist. Just for us lucky humans. Now it’s time for me to pour another cup of coffee! A pleasure to read your posts, as always!

    • You are so kind 🙏 thank you 😊 it’s always a pleasure to read yours too, gotta catch up on my few days off here! And what you said is so true, time is ours alone, if you try to divine it in the spirit world or cosmos, it’s almost like a void. Your comment gave me some interesting thoughts! Thank you 😊

      Coffee always helps 🤣 ☕️

      • Good to hear it! Welcome back from the edge of the world of the dead. Sorry if I ever don’t get likes to you. I’m still getting your messages but my like button is broken and I can’t sign in. WTF WordPress. I’m just waiting for it to stop allowing me to post. I also want to save your comments on posts as I join them into chapters, but to do that? $25/ month business upgrade. So I’m just saving the posts in my drafts. Don’t think I don’t love the comments. Cause I do.😀

      • No it’s not a problem at all!! lol 😆 I know, WordPress does funky and funny stuff all the time. I emailed their support because so many of my comments were being marked as spam…something crazy going on on their end. And there’s been times I comment on someone’s post, go back and look, and I know I liked it, but there’s no like. It’s insane how annoying it can be lol 😆 so no worries at all, you know I’m a fan for life! 🫶

  8. Two quotes from your incredible poem about ‘Time’.

It is strange that the years teach us patience; that the shorter our time, the greater our capacity for waiting. Elizabeth Taylor

Time has been transformed, and we have changed; it has advanced and set us in motion; it has unveiled its face, inspiring us with bewilderment and exhilaration. Khalil Gibran

  9. The way you frame these questions about time and life is really thought-provoking, Laura. It makes me want to delve deeper into the meaning of existence, especially the importance of cherishing memories and reconciling with loved ones before the end. You’ve captured the feeling of time slipping away so beautifully—something we all experience. It’s a powerful reminder.

    Well done! Peace! 😊

    • I never wanted nothing to do with it. It’s just I was nervous my poems or work wouldn’t be as good as everyone else’s and I was a bit shy.

      I’m glad you’re glad I changed my mind 😆

I also know you’ve read this before, but I wanted you to see how many people were praising your wonderful images 😊

      • You were hesitant, I guess is a better terminology.
Regardless, the end result is I am glad you decided to give it a go. We’re all much richer for your presence 🤗

Yes, and it is much appreciated. Thank you 😍

  10. Dear Laura
    We like your poem.
Actually, we are in the privileged situation of having enough time. But nevertheless, time is something we can’t grasp and understand. It’s a dimension and a rhythm, something we always live by, even if we don’t need to. Gurdjieff called it ‘the merciless heropass’ – merciless that is what time is like.
We wish you a wonderful weekend

  11. This poem makes me think deeply about time and life. You ask important questions that help us look at our lives and how we use our time. Your words inspire us to make the most of every moment appreciate our loved ones and live with purpose. And it encourages us to focus on what truly matters and not waste our lives. It’s a beautiful reminder to live each day with intention and gratitude. Well done Laura💕😊

    • Thanks so much, lovely 💕 I appreciate your kind and thoughtful comment. 😊 I’m glad it came through as such, it’s hard some days to remember to live each day to our fullest, but if we are grateful, that’s at least one step forward 🙏
