Thieves Among Us

You have three magic genie wishes, what are you asking for?

So.

This morning started out interesting as I woke up to a text from Kevin asking me if I had a re-blog on this post right here since he got a link-back to a site that appeared to have copied the entire post.

No credit given.

No link-back.

No ping.

Nothing. Zero. Zip. Nada.

Is the title of the post supposed to be credit? Or what?

Here’s the fucked up part. I don’t even want to link this bastard because then they get views on their own site which looks like it was just put up recently.

This is not the first time I’ve had to deal with bullshit like this, but idea thieves and people stealing words or phrases or content ideas from you aren’t exactly something you can report to WordPress.

The entire post copied in full. Not a re-blog. Not a link-back
They were too stupid not to remove the other link in the post, however

Be annoyed about? Sure. Know when you read it or see it that they are pilfering off of you? Sure. And I’m sure some of those reading this have done it.

However…

Outright thievery?

The thing is – the post within the website makes no sense at all as the blogger appears to be male.

“Being creative and making things keeps me happy.” Really? Does also stealing content make you happy? 🖕

Thankfully he was moronic enough to leave the link in so Kevin at least was aware of it.

I am very thankful too as well to Sara who let me know about the copyright DMCA notice, as unfortunately she has also had her work stolen.

The nerve of some people, and they do it right under your nose, to your face.

This is why I told Ernie to copyright “Peaceful Insanity” and thank god he did.

Where do we draw the line? It’s AI images and my words. But…it’s still my own creation.

The very first post I ever made on this blog states that: “All writings and photos are my own unless otherwise stated.

Does that offer me any sort of protection? Why do you have to tell grown ass people not to steal your shit?

Fuck off and get your own fucking content.

Asshole.

As you can see, my week is starting out brilliantly. But going forward, I unfortunately will probably have to put protection on my work no matter what, even something like a silly daily prompt post.

I put a watermark on photos of mine years ago, and they still were stolen.

It almost makes you want to stop posting.

People and thieves especially, always make life so much more fun.

  1. It’s definitely stealing your work with no link to take you back to your original post.

I and many others, including Renard had our posts stolen by another site. For me, it was my previous blog where posts were taken. I think when I first learnt of it, I think was through Renard’s blog and when I checked to see if any of my posts were taken. They were. Which is why I have a copyright notice on a majority of my posts. But Renard already had copyright and his work taken.

In the end, the site, which I can’t remember what the site was called now, got taken down with us all complaining.

      • I can’t remember now for sure how I took it down. But I took it down following Renard’s advice. I think on that occasion, it was the site that this person was using for where our work was. If not, it may have been from a DMCA website address to take it down.

Wherever it was I complained I can remember providing the link of the post link where my stilen work and I provided my link of my original post. I also took a screenshot of site that stolen my work. But I can’t remember if I provided that.

I didn’t hear anything in response. But I kept an eye on the website that stole the work and within days or a week, the site was closed.

      • Thank you so much, Liz 😊 I appreciate it. I’m gonna look into it. It just is irritating and one other hassle for just a simple blog, what is supposed to be enjoyable

    • And not so much for a silly daily prompt post. But I’ve had photos of mine stolen before and I’m worried if I post more on this site when I get a new camera, it’s going to end up happening. 🙄
So I’d rather put my foot down, now.

  2. That’s really upsetting and annoying. Is this the price of putting your stuff on the internet these days? The danger of it being accessible to everyone and then being shared etc etc? Have you had any feedback from WordPress regarding this?

Btw, I do chuckle to myself when I read your posts sometimes at how ‘sassy’ (I think that’s the most appropriate word) you are 😂 I have an impression that you’re a lady who takes no shit 👌

    Liked by 2 people

    • Haha, yeah…you’re right, I try not to fly off the handle much if I can anymore, but if something truly pisses me off, I don’t hold back.

No feedback yet, as I have to report it. Trying to figure out the proper channel to do so. I had to take a moment away from the platform today to just breathe and decide what I want to do. It is a shitty price to pay to have your work out there, and have people steal it…especially when people on here sometimes go on about how “authentic” they are.

Anyways, thanks for allowing me to rant.

      • Rant away anytime you want to me, I’ve been told I’m a good listener.

I hope you can get it all sorted out soon and it isn’t too much of a ball ache for you to do. Don’t let it get you down and definitely don’t stop you from blogging. I for one really enjoy reading your posts 👌 all the best 🤗

  3. Your reaction is justifiable. Remember that out reactions and perceptions shape out world, both within and around us. When a negativiely perception enter our mind, we subconsciously become that negativity and propagate that negativity through our body, mind and world. It becomes us. Though not always the easy option, to combat negativity, we must change our perceptions. In this case, you are a talented writer and that led to someone stealing your material. You know who is the origin and you will rise above this type of negativity. To be positive requires that we constantly observe our thoughts and direct them to our desires and goals. It requires constant forgiveness of others and ourselves.

    • Thanks for your positive comment and support, truly so appreciated. I definitely do seek to rise about the negativity. Now that I’ve got my rant out, I feel a bit better and I’m gonna make sure going forward this doing happen again.

      • Anger exists with a purpose like all things. It should treated like electricity. You store it in your core, like a battery. And when the object of your anger is present, you unleash it to leave an imprint where it belongs. We too often release it immediately without proper focus, and it’s power is wasted and only leaves us feeling powerless. Harness that power and store it to be unleashed when it is truly needed.

  4. As you know, this was not the way I wanted to see your day start at all. And, as you also know, I was quite angry about it too. I am still perplexed to some degree about the whole thing.

Perplexed in that I don’t understand how the hell the post they stole even fits in with the rest of “his” site. The rest of the posts there, all of which went up today, mind you (and are also likely stolen from others if I had to guess), are nothing like the tone of yours. And, don’t get me wrong, it’s totally irrelevant what they stole – the fact is they stole.

But in the context of the rest of that site. It makes zero sense. I find myself confused and saying “I don’t know” a lot today.

I am so sorry that this happened and even more so that I had to be the one to tell you.

Frankly, after that happened this morning, I had no desire to be on here. It really took the joy out of it. Seeing your work elsewhere without any credit at all was and is downright infuriating.

And that freaking comment went right to spam because I’ll be damned if someone is getting clicks for their “work” at my expense. Screw that.

    • Thank you 🙏 it really does mean a lot to me, and I’m glad it was discovered because it could be the start of something, you never know how much these people really have. I don’t want to have to redo everything over, so I’m going to have to work a liiiittle extra harder unfortunately to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Yeah, it’s incredibly bizarre to me, too. I get the desire to want to take a step back as well, felt that heavily. It’s hard to shake off. But I’m going to try and move forward with a level head.

Appreciate you and your support, always ❤️

Remember when WP was reasonably decent at catching spam? Not so much anymore 🙄

      • It’s shit because somehow spammers and scammers can get away with stuff, but we – the people, can’t blog peacefully without having to worry about stirring some shit up or having some thrown at us. Very frustrating.

I would say let’s hope it gets fixed…but…

      • Yeah, now they’re posing as real people commenting and then they lower the boom. And lately I have had to send a lot more shit to spam myself and rescue legit comments from that folder. Completely ass backwards.

  5. I’m sorry to hear this. I often worry about my posts especially my song lyrics, not that they’re really any good or that there the next big hit or anything, although I do hope that someone may find them entertaining enough to maybe play around the campfire or something and just enjoy them. But if someone were to steal some of my work I would more than likely never know. It is very sad that some folks feel the need to plagiarize someone else’s hard work. I am sorry this has happened to you. You are very talented and I am sure touched a lot of people. Hope your day and the rest of your week goes well. All the best.

    • Thank you for your very kind words, Michael. 🙏 It is indeed frustrating, it doesn’t matter what the content is, if it’s yours, it’s yours. And yes, I would’ve never known otherwise, which is the scary part in a lot of ways.
And I do so appreciate your kindness about my work 😊 it means a lot, because when things like this happen, you wonder how much you should be putting out 🙏 all the best to you as well

    • Thank you so much for informing me, about the DMCA as well, Sara. It was funny how you sent me that email not even that long ago about your own thievery you experienced, which is so heinous. 😡 I’m hoping this can be rectified, like yours was. Much appreciated always 🙏 💕

  6. “idea thieves and people stealing words or phrases or content ideas”. I feel you Lilith. It’s happened to me more than a few times. At first I went after them, tracking down the original posts that were stolen from me and others, contacting the others in an attempt to gang up on the thieves. Even sent messages to the reposters, but all in all, what matters is the environment “you” create around your own site. They can’t steal that from you. Take care. Always good seeing a new post from you!

  9. WTF? This is really sad Laura. I see it said he did research in the photo, is that dredging around to see what it could steal? Don’t know what support will tell you but I wish you the best with them. Maybe we should all do a post on this with the info you’ve provided and post on different days to spread the word about this A-hole. You knows what’s next sister, find that peaceful insanity as soon as possible. 🥹🙏

  10. Interesting. I checked his site, and it looks like he’s just starting out and has already posted (or stolen) a handful of posts from different people. I like this line from his “About Me” section: “Find me cooking, gardening, or working out in the park when I’m not with my pen and pencil.” Sure, he has plenty of time—and the “pen and pencil” should really read “copy and paste.” You should definitely report him, as the pictures are clearly linked to your blog. Laziness at its finest. Don’t worry too much. We know who has the better tacos. 😂

    Liked by 2 people

    • I’m kinda wondering if it does make a difference. I guess we’ll find out here shortly. I would definitely start, especially with poems and things you don’t want ripped off. I’ve always done it for poems, but not things like daily prompts. Now I feel like I have to start with everything. I agree, it is upsetting. Hoping there will be a resolution.

      • Still copyright your posts. Which is why I have copyright on mine. But unfortunately it not make a difference to some who try to steal work because as I mentioned before, Renard already had copyright displayed on his blog when it happened to him.

        Liked by 1 person

      • It sucks! But at least if you have the copyright there, you’ve given some “notice” which states your work shouldn’t / can’t/ won’t/ is not allowed to be copied. Meanwhile, you’d think that’s common sense from the everyday reader, right? 😒

        Liked by 1 person

      • Yes. At least it’s there and they can’t say they have not had warning. But although it is common sense, there just seems to be a lot of common sense missing these days that there are notices of all kinds to tell you to do polite things that should be done automatically. Like flushing a public loo for example after you. Or wash your own pots in a kitchen that is shared and don’t expect one person to wash all your pots.

        Liked by 1 person

      • Common sense is indeed not common. You have to wonder what world we’re living in sometimes! Ugh 😫 the fact that people want stuff just handed to them or they take it is outrageous

  12. I posted photos of our pug Daisy in pug groups on Facebook and the administrators and moderators of these groups took my photos and reposted them as if they were their own, changing the text, and sometimes even renaming the dog. Then I discovered pug groups where I had not posted anything, and they were still using my photos as their own. Apparently this was a very common practice in Facebook pug groups. The administrators and moderators were like an “in-group” who thought that photos posted by members were theirs for the taking. People started complaining, which was pointless since it was the administrators/moderators doing it. So people just left the groups.

This never happened in the Leonberger groups, well until one person started doing it recently and they got a lot of pushback from Leonberger ownsers. It was young influencer-wanna-be’s who did this. I asked my daughter about it and she said it is very common. Young influencer-wanna-be’s think it is perfectly OK to just crib anyone’s photos if they post in the group they started. No attribution and even lying about the photos is normal. This is actually not legal, per the statement you agree to when you open a Facebook account, but they don’t read that, so they don’t know that.

    • Thank you so much Thomas for your comment. I’m so sorry this happened to you as well. Unfortunately this isn’t my first rodeo with content being stolen. I used to have a pretty popular account for my cat on instagram, and some of her photos got stolen and used in an ad internationally somewhere. Hard to do anything about it then! What a rock and a hard place you were stuck between! Ugh 😫 how frustrating. Definitely should not be the “norm” at all. I’m hoping for a resolution for the situation. 🙏 much appreciated, again

      Liked by 3 people

      • Yes too many people think it is OK to do this. I am an administrator or moderator for six FB beer groups. Whenever I see people steal pictures I delete the post and ban them. However, in the pug groups I mentioned it was the administrators and moderators doing it and they could ban members for complaining about it.

        Liked by 1 person

      • Yes I agree, that’s pretty bold. When people realized they left the group but that’s all they could do. Well I guess they could get a lawyer but people don’t do that over a pug photo. Artistic work is different though. That’s something one might consider a lawyer for.

        Liked by 1 person

      • I won’t be getting a lawyer, but I understand why people would as well. Just not in the budget. If it were words or publications or something like that, perhaps. We’ll see.

  13. I can also add that the same goes for WordPress as for Facebook. You don’t have to write “copyright” anywhere, you already have copyright on your posts. This you can turn the copycat in. Ask him to take it down and if he refuses you can take legal action (that is a hazzle though).

  16. This happens all the time, and it’s only getting worse—many people don’t even realize when it’s happening. We’ve experienced this ourselves on multiple occasions, and it can be challenging to trace the people behind it. To protect yourself, always create a copy of everything you post or publish. After posting, save a PDF version or a Word document as an additional layer of proof. This double backup ensures you have a record of each piece of work, including photos, the same day it’s published. We keep a backup copy of every article, post, image, and other digital assets. Sometimes, content can disappear from platforms like WordPress, or worse, it can be stolen. Maintaining a backup of everything—text, photos, and all digital assets—is essential to keep your work safe.

    • Thank you so much for mentioning this, John. I was just telling Kevin this today as well, I don’t want more things to be stolen or get out of control cause then I’d have to start over and I don’t even know anything about backing up a copy and stuff like that. I’ll have to look deeper into it. It’s a shame things have to be like this and it’s becoming more and more prevalent…the fact that people do it right in front of you, too. It’s astounding in some ways.

      Liked by 2 people

      • I know exactly what you mean—it’s really unsettling how often this happens now. Backing up can feel overwhelming at first, especially if it’s new to you, but once you have a system in place, it makes a big difference in protecting your work. Starting with something simple, like saving copies to a secure drive or a cloud service, is a great first step. For added security, try using at least two backup drives in case one ever fails. Once you get the hang of it, you’ll feel much more secure knowing your work is safe. 😎

Unfortunately, there is always chaff among the wheat, and because we are not malicious, we think that we should not protect our work. I hope these individuals stop these malicious actions. I was also told that just the watermark does not solve it, as individuals go to the trouble of deleting it. Thank you for protesting, we are supporting you. 😊🙏🏻

I’m glad that the idiot forgot to remove the link to Kevin’s site and that you got to know. I hope that this asshole’s site gets taken down after your complaint. I have not faced this before but then again, that could be sheer ignorance. If there’s no link, there is no way I can find out.

  21. I am so very sorry this has happened to you, and I understand how this makes you feel. I discovered at the end of July my entire blog — not just one post, but every post I had written since 2017, all likes, comments, and photos — were being replicated on nearly a dozen bogus daily news roundup sites. I was never able to get to the bottom of who was doing it and despite putting copyright notices on my posts and other warnings that these posts were being used on these other sites without my knowledge or consent, it continued. Ultimately I had to start over with a new blog and take my old blog private. I was able to export my posts and images from my previous blog and import them into my new one, but it was a tedious and time consuming process.

Again, I’m sorry this happened to you but at least it was only one post and you know who did it. Hopefully this will be an isolated incident.

Incredibly sorry to hear what happened to you! ☹️ that’s my fear that it could get out of hand and then I’d have to start all over again- no easy feat at all, I’m sure! I really feel for you in that regard and then of course not knowing and the blatant thievery is so scary. The complete replication of it is what has me so freaked out and baffled even too. I really hope nothing like that ever happens again to you, so frustrating! And yes, that’s what I worry too, copyright infringement notices don’t seem to do much (and I’m sure WP didn’t do much either) ugh 😫 so unfortunate!

  22. Wow, I feel this on so many levels. These thieves are everywhere—music, graphics, videos, even Insta stories 😅. I’ll never understand how people can do this so shamelessly! I honestly don’t even know how to ask a blogger for permission to reblog their post properly. I mean, when you reblog, visitors go to the original blog to read the full post. But, let’s say I reblog Laura’s post— @Laura’s catchy titles alone would probably bring a bunch of visitors to my blog, even though all the effort is hers… I don’t know how to explain this 🤭😅

    • It’s unfortunate they are everywhere. It’s really hard to express yourself in that way when you have to worry about thieves taking your work. Especially when it’s something you put a lot of time and effort in. Just not the way I was raised and don’t understand it at all.

  23. I am so annoyed by it, that I left the following comment over at that blog:

I am waiting for you to remove this content that you have stolen from my friend, Laura, at Black Moon Lilith.
This is not your content. You have not asked Laura permission and you have not given credit to the original owner of this post. I and many others are supporting Laura after finding this post of hers here. And so when she takes further action, I will, and no doubt, many of her other readers will support her.
I have followed Laura’s blog for some time and there are others who have followed her blog even longer. So we know this post is not yours.
Stealing other people’s blog posts is not the way you should start your blog. You are no way a writer when the pist you display is written by someone else.
Just how many more posts here belong to you? Or did you steal them from other different blogs like this one?
I will keep coming back to this blog. But only to see if you have removed this post. Or to see if your site closes down because of content theft.

The comment I left will probably not get over there. But I needed to give my two cents to the person who stole your post.

  24. ‘Morning Laura,

Sheesh! That really would make me freak out! But I guess they’ll only plagiarize popular posts … which, now makes me slightly jealous. 😉 (Kidding!)

I have to hold my hands up to sometimes using images on some of my blogs, but I do try to give credits and say I’ll immediately take the post down if the rights holder hasn’t been found and so requests. But as far as copying written content goes, in any shape or form, well that’;s just a complete ‘no no.’

I can’t understand the mentality of these folk – same as Olympic athletes taking performance enhancing drugs. I mean, how much satisfaction could you take from looking at a medal you know REALLY didn’t ‘win?’

I have seen scammers even copy BOOKS and try to sell via Amazon.

This whole blogging / AI thing is starting to really tick me off.

I hope you track down the git whole stole your post and get them shut down soon.

    • Thanks Cee Tee. 😊 I appreciate your supportive comment 🙏 I think it’s different when the person is attempting to give credit you know? That could easily be overlooked or an innocent mistake. The guy obviously knew where he got my stuff from.

Copying books is beyond baffling to me. That’s so awful and sad 😫

He doesn’t have a WP site apparently, so he gotta figure something else out. Lots of fun! 😑

    • They didn’t reblog though. They just copied my post onto another website. There was no link-back to me. But yes, it can be weird sometimes when people reblog too if they don’t give you a heads up or they’re just trying to draw traffic to their site. Some people like your work and are showing their appreciation which is ok. This was a blatant just taking the content and reposting it without permission.

    • Thank you lovely Maggie 😊 🙏 truly so appreciated. I will be fine. I’m hoping to find this guys host so I can send some kind of notice, but I’m unsure how it’s going to go. Truly appreciated though 🤗 ❤️

      • It truly sucks and I am not sure of the best way to deal with these things.

I was hacked when I was on IG a couple of years ago.

Lost all my work and for all I kniw, the profile might still be there

IG did nothing 🤔 which is about par for the course.

Put a copyright on all your work hun and take a break if needs be .

        🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

      • Omg!! I’m so sorry!! 😢 I can’t believe IG did nothing. Well, I can 😡 how infuriating. It’s been having a bit of trouble coming on here and keeping up, still waiting to hear back from the hosting site…
I’m so sorry you lost all your work 🙏 that is awful. 😞

  25. What a bizzarro way to get your attention! I smell a stalker … lol! I’ve been hacked and trolled hence the anonymous nature of my ghosting … Still, be careful Loveee! Halloween is among us and Catwoman is the best at spats! On a brighter note … I’ve missed you!!!!! Please keep being awesome YOU and let em copy/thirst/drool over your work; they will never be to your standards/specs/qualifications EVER!!! Love you!!!! & Have a Cat-tastic Day !!!

      • That is the case and it’s a heavy locked trunk that I have to lug around everywhere I go! Still very much on shaky ground and literally just today the energy to “get on” … I could read everybody at times but couldn’t respond or engage online for any time. Felt tortuous! All that aside, PLEASE don’t allow an energy vampire to take your awesome flow. You are so popular because of your stealth and humor, amazing eye, thrilling poetry and stories … NO can’t let jealousy steal your creative outlet that helps so many of us!!! But I will email you and that way we can’t lose touch … almost truly became a ghost (again!!!) (Ahhhh!) (LOL) ❤ !!!!!

  26. That truly sucks! 😦 Since you’re on wordpress.com, there’s not really much you can do about it, unfortunately. If you had a self-hosted website, there are all kinds of plug-ins available to guard against content scrapers. You could leave him a scathing comment, threatening legal action, at least! So sorry you are dealing with this!

To check if any other of your posts have been pirated, use Copyscape:

  27. I was going to suggest that you out the rascal and see that you have done it. I guess the next move would be to send a DMCA notice to the web host. Web hosts get very antsy when they receive those notices. To find who is hosting this guy’s site you can go to https://hostingchecker.com/ and put in his web address. Then look up the host for contact info.Once you send the notice the web host will usually tell the their to take it down or risk being unhosted. Great to meet you today, Laure and sorry you are going through this crap.

  28. Wow, I feel really bad for you Laura. What jackass would basically pirate a blogger’s content? I hope you get this resolved quickly.

“With a life motto that emphasizes the joy of making and creating” (a crock of shit that rivals basically anything Jerry Jones has said since February of 1996).

    • They emailed me back and stated I didn’t have sufficient enough evidence for it to be taken down 🙄 I’m so mad…so, I sent another strongly worded email…we’ll see if they come back with anything

      • Not enough evidence?! That’s ridiculous! He copied your post in its entirety. 😒 I hope your second email triggers a better response. Here’s another idea… Hostinger has an X (Twitter) account, @Hostinger. You could call them out publicly about hosting plagiarists. They would hate that kind of publicity and it might convince them to do something.

      • I just literally received an email from them this morning that he has 3 days to remove the content (or prove he has legal rights to it 🙄) or else they will suspend his site…here’s to hoping 🤞

      • May have to utilize that account after all. Seems the thief has just changed the blog post date to September 20th, which is ludicrous because anyone can change a date on a post. I emailed them and told them they better do something, because simply changing a blog post date doesn’t mean anything (trying to fake like he had MY content before it ever was created) 🙄

  29. I liked the comment about how this is a sign of your talent. Honestly. If someone with no idea how to create takes something from you and passes it off as theirs, the only thing you can do is take it as a compliment. And hope they make a movie out of it, so you can sue the shit out of them. Love you, Laura Laura. Don’t give up. And don’t sweat it. We all know what’s real and what isn’t.

    • Thank you so much, Ted. 🫶 I do appreciate it 🙏 it just sucks when you feel violated and there’s nothing you can really do about it. Suing the shit out of them would be ideal, though 😀

  30. On that offending website, the post there where it displays a photo of 31 days of self care, I discovered where that one came from after reading and so I have left a comment to the original owner who is also a WordPress blogger. The content belongs to The Spectacled Bean.

I only was able to work it out with the mention of WordPress because as this website doesn’t air on WordPress then he has no reason to talk about the going ons of WordPress. As I read further, like Laura’s post, a link was left. I put title of post in search bar of WordPress reader and it took me to The Spectacled Bean. Only last gew links were removed from post on stolen website page. But not the one further inside.

So yes. That website taking other people’s work like Laura’s and The Spectacled Bean posts, he ain’t going to gain popularity with Google.

    • Thank you so much Liz. I emailed Hostsinger, the thief’s hosting platform this AM and told them all the content on his site is taken from others blogs. They said I have not provided sufficient enough evidence for it to be taken down. Getting pretty discouraged, but I sent them back another pretty strongly worded email. 🙄🙄 we’ll see. Good detective work on your part!! I have to go to work tonight for a bit so I have to put some of this on hold but I’ll let you know what they come back with. At least we, the true people, know what’s really out there and what’s real and what’s theft.

      • When you emailed them, did you provide your post that was stolen so they can see original to the website that stole?

I have link saved on my phone for other blog to show where it came from if you woukd like that one too. To show its not just your content stolen. But another too.

I hope work goes ok and all the best with this. X

      • Thank you, yes I provided the link to them, I said very plainly as well “my content was created, written and made by me on October 23rd, 2024. The site stole the content in its entirety and without authorized use and posted it on theirs on October 28th, 2024.” I provided both links. You have to wonder what else do they need and are they running some scam, too. 😩

Thank you 😊 I appreciate it and all you’ve done. 🤗 We’ll see what happens. Feeling a bit crappy at the moment

      • Going by this post and her comments, she’s taking a break from blogging. I don’t think she has even seen my comment of bearing bad news when letting her know of her post being stolen and on the other site.
