Forest for the Trees (a Return)

This is a submission for Kevinโ€™s No Theme Thursday.

Image by Kevin from The Beginning at Last

Returning to the forest

After a long while

Rustling breeze of trees

Always make me smile

The first time I came

Among season of Spring

With deep green leaves

And blue birds that sing

Now darker upon Autumn

The air is mysterious

Leaves turning red

Fleeting animals less curious

Hibernation for the soul

Preparing for winterโ€™s storm

Earthโ€™s soil frozen below

To re-emerge once more

Time fades away slowly

Cycles of life and death

Stillness within solitude

Take a weary last breath

Branches cracking underfoot

Song of waterโ€™s flowing calm

Scents of crisp, cooler air

Touch of dirt upon my palm

Messages still the same

Listen closely to falling leaves

Iโ€™ll forever feel at home

In the forest among the trees

As the seasons change, so do we. ๐Ÿ

My first entry to No Theme Thursday was on March 24th, 2024 (a little over seven months ago) and it was a poem called Forest for the Trees. ๐ŸŒณ

This image reminded me of that first ever entry and I decided to reminisce on a return to the beginning.

My blog was never supposed to be about poetry, and I remember feeling so nervous posting that first poem, thinking it would be an utter fail.

So, this is my way of saying, โ€œThank you.โ€

For being here with me as I write more, for helping me grow, and for Kevin and his beautiful inspiration which has kept me writing for this long. โค๏ธ

Gratitude to everyone who reads this. You are always appreciated. ๐Ÿ™

    • Thanks, Thomas! ๐Ÿ˜Š much appreciated ๐Ÿ™ No Theme Thursday doesnโ€™t have a โ€œthemeโ€ per se. Kevin creates the images and then he allows us the use of them to be inspired to write however we want. Some people do poems, short stories, but it doesnโ€™t have to be exclusively poetry ๐Ÿ˜Š I used an image one time to write about a dream I had

  1. Glad you decided to take that first step and say “fie!” to any worries you had about your poetry. And as a woods-dweller, I feel at home there too!

  2. Another beautiful poem Laura. I’m happy that you overdosed on the jumping java juice and posted the first poem, where would we be without you? And yes Kevin rocks. Happy Sunday sister. โ˜•โ˜•โ˜•

  4. Beautifully written! This captures the cycles of nature and the human spirit. Returning to the forest in autumn reflects both natureโ€™s renewal and inner peace, showing how lifeโ€™s rhythms bring rebirth and belonging. Keep up the great work! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

  5. Beautiful imagery throughout; it really captures the rhythmic dance of natureโ€™s cycles. Lines like โ€œHibernation for the soulโ€ give it a sense of introspection and renewal. You can almost feel the forest breathe. Always nice to be reminded of the solace nature offers. Feels like youโ€™re right there, among the trees. Thank you for sharing.

    • Oh! & Kevin’s image is fantastical! Last week was in Tahoe and hadn’t been in forever, BUT the trees are decimated and scorched! Looks like Mordor is real! This picture captured reminds me of what Tahoe once looked like. Thinking of you ~ โค
