Home Sweet Home

Daily writing prompt
What does your ideal home look like?

We answered this some time ago, and I still think the meme I used is pretty appropriate:

Not my photo, nor my home πŸ˜‚

However, since I now actually use AI generators, I did decide to play around a bit…

β€œI write my mantra all the time; it always starts with:

β€œLive in the mountains.”

All my life, I’ve been surrounded by people, moving, going, fast-paced. Hurry up, get this done. Move, move, move.

And while Florida may not feel as fast-paced as some places, it is ever-growing and it doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon.

Especially South Florida.

I’ve never been the type to enjoy being surrounded by people.

I love my solitude.

Doesn’t have to be this large – a humble abode in the mountains will do. It’s about the location, being in that tranquil setting, surrounded by fresh air and nature.

And even though I love my home now,

I would take a quiet home set in the mountains, surrounded by trees, wildlife, many paths to walk down, and if I’m lucky, some lovely clear and clean water nearby to take a swim in when it’s not too cold!

And a dark sky full of stars and constellations to light up the night.

This would symbolize to me that I’ve made it in life.

Everything else inside the house does not matter, the material goods – that will come after, in time.

(I’m a woman after all, there’s no doubt I can make a house feel like a home).

As long as it’s a sturdy, strong, good house with a solid foundation.

What I need is that blank canvas.

Calm, tranquility, peace.

No worries.”

Seems on that post however, I forgot one thing:

It doesn’t have to be fancy, either.

But a hot tub with a mountain view would be most idyllic.

Thanks for reminiscing and also dreaming with me.

Perhaps one day, that dream will be a reality. 😊

Have a lovely day!

  1. Hi Laura. I am with you on that idea✌️. That house on the river looks perfectπŸ‘! Although, personally, I would have it a bit smaller as that looks like too much houseworkπŸ€”. Keep your eye on that goal! Hope you are keeping well…Best, Jay😊

    • I agree with you there, Jay! Lol πŸ˜† Was definitely saying I’d want something a bit smaller hahaha, AI does what it wants tho πŸ˜† thanks! I think it’s a decent setting at least…definitely a nice goal to have, and I hope you’re keeping well too and the week is starting out nice for you. 😊 πŸ™ everything is going well here

  2. Well, I like almost everything that you describe. I’m looking for such a project to come to fruition in the near future. I don’t like living near too many people. We’ll see. Anyway I really enjoyed how you described your dream home πŸ‘ Take care 🌞

    • Thanks Chris! Glad you liked it πŸ™ I’m definitely the type of person who could live away from most things and feel content. Could be a symptom of being in service to lots of others for a good portion of my life. Never really been a city person for whatever reason, tho. I hope your project does come to fruition soon! That sounds exciting! 😊

  3. Waited to comment until I’d pinged you in my post for today. ❀ We’re so similar in this, and I love the images you posted with the big windows and majestic starry views. YES, perfect! I’m LOLing at the comment above about groceries. Yes, don’t situate too far away. πŸ™‚

    • I loved it ❀️ thank you so much! So similar yes, I think I like your house that you generated even more than mine! I need that starry view and that cool mountain air!

Yeah, true. I want to be away from civilization, but not hours away from groceries lol πŸ˜†

  4. Ahhh, gorgeous images!!! Especially that second one of the cabin! I definitely have some mixed feelings about generative AI (mostly in it being trained using artwork from people who didn’t consent to having it used for that purpose, people claiming they created the images themselves when they didn’t, and it being used for commercial purposes – on the flip side, I have no issues with it being used when openly acknowledged as AI, for the purpose of accompanying the thing that we did create ourselves, such as our poetry and stories, or being the inspiration for them, and not used for profit – I love the way that you use it to create unique images that match so perfectly with what you wrote and add that extra dimension to the reading experience – you do such an amazing job of directing it to give you awesome images – especially how you use it to create an avatar of yourself in those images, so fun! I enjoy the way you use it so much! Whoops, long tangent, time to get back to the original point… πŸ˜…), but I absolutely love the images that generative AI can create! I haven’t tried using using AI myself yet, but you’re making me want to experiment with it at some point.

I came up with the saying “cities are meant to visited, not lived in” as a teen, and I continue to feel exactly that way. I love living in the country, surrounded on three sides by corn fields, (and our next door neighbour far enough distanced from us for comfortable breathing room, plus is the best neighbour you could ask for) and couldn’t imagine moving to a city. What you’ve described here is my dream home too.

    • πŸ˜† 🀣 I’m so glad you like the images Nicole πŸ™ and I so do appreciate your kind words 😊 definitely give it a shot! I agree with you on cities – when I went to Ireland I had a taxi driver who said something to me like β€œall cities are the same, go out to the countryside and that’s where you see the true beauty” and that’s so true. I always knew that anyways, but I loved the way he said it.

      • β€œall cities are the same, go out to the countryside and that’s where you see the true beauty” – aww, that is really lovely.

If I ever do want to visit a city, I like to wander about the downtown on foot, where the unique shops with knickknacks or interesting food are. Perhaps some beautiful old architecture from the church or post office or other buildings if I’m lucky. Any other part of the city? Not interested. (Unless it’s the specific house / apartment where a friend lives, I guess 😜)

      • That’s true!! This was in Dublin as well and there is quite a bit of really nice landmarks there, like Saint Patrick’s Cathedral which was amazing to visit and many others, and yes! On foot. What you say is true. There’s some different and unique things everywhere, nature as a whole I guess is just on a different level in some ways haha 🀣

      • So true! For example, I rarely find it possible to do any mushroom spotting in cities, but I can sure find them out in the forest!

Actually, one of the most amazing finds I’ve ever made was during last year’s Labour Day weekend camping trip with friends when we spotted ghost pipe flowers along one of the forest trails, which are super rare, and even more mind boggling when I did research about them. My friend asked me to write an ode about them, so I did. https://elderberrytea.wordpress.com/2023/09/21/an-ode-to-ghost-pipes/

  5. Great post. The artwork goes so well with the verbiage! ❀️😎

I get it about solitude. I grew up in S. FL (Boca Raton) and it was just a little quiet beach town then. So beautiful. Our HS didn’t even have A/C! Now it’s 8-lane roads and high rises πŸ˜‘

    • Omg lol πŸ˜† we could’ve been neighbors practically! I live in Fort Lauderdale now, have worked in Boca and Palm Beach. 😊
But yes, I agree. It used to not be so bad but the overcrowding now is just extreme. Too many high rises, too much construction! I want to move so badly, maybe one day (hopefully soon!)
Thanks for your kind comments πŸ™ so much appreciated 😊 ✨
