Was Blind, But Now…I See

This is a submission to Kevin’s No Theme Thursday.

She always told me I was like a black mirror. Reflections of others just bounced off me clearer, but I hated the resemblance – Uncanny and true. However, one stormy night I decided to see it through.

I’d always been blind, with bad vision my whole life. It was a major annoyance, causing me unnecessary strife.

I looked upon the mirror one darkened night, taking a deep breath, sitting in dim candlelight.

Black mirror, black mirror, what is it you’ll show me? For I am blind, but the gift of second sight flows freely…

A gift, a curse…is always what I’ve said. If you happen upon the other side, you’ve made your own bed – and man, it’s enough to really fill you with dread. Be sure it’s something you want, for there’s no going back.

Gazing upon the mirror, its surface an obsidian black. I took a drag of tobacco smoke, blowing it into the ether. Would I get an answer? A scare? Or neither? A riddle, you say?

I hated asking twice. I’ve learned in life – for impatience, you usually pay a price.

Waiting in reverence, losing track of time, gazing up at the clock, with its 3AM chime. A ringing and whoosh suddenly ran through my ears, and I knew finally – that spirit was near.

The candles flickered, and the wind outside howled. Rain was pouring down violently, no turning back now.

The obsidian took shape as my eyes were burning blurry; blood rushing through my veins with my head pounding, hurting.

Smoke and mirrors,” there was a fire in the reflection. I squinted harder, trying to understand its mysterious connection.

“What does it mean?” I asked out loud, trying to decipher the enigma I’d found. For all my life, they’d plagued me in dreams, keeping their secrets, stifling their screams.

I asked again…

“What does it mean?”

Finally.

The message was clear:

“Nothing is as it seems.”

I must thank Kevin for this absolutely gorgeous image, what black mirror scryer wouldn’t want this elegant piece of obsidian stone?

*Tobacco smoke is commonly used in rituals and practices for communicating with the spirit world.

Thank you for reading.

  2. there are kind of 2 black mirrors: 1 the screen of the gadgets where a hidden observer watch us; the other the magic mirror, used in rituals, its made of obsidian to see another dimensions. i prefer the 2nd.
face the shadow and light it with a candle.

    • Yes indeed, the mirror I’m referring to is the obsidian mirror. The multiple dimensional mirror. Thanks for your comment as always 😊 facing the shadow is a tough call for some! 🙏
