Back to the Future

Daily writing prompt
What are you most excited about for the future?

*short, high pitched radio noises*

“Roger that, Alpha-1. I’m here at Comms Central and I can’t seem to shake this migraine WordPress is giving me again over the daily prompt. No, nothing original. Definition of madness and monotony. I’m about to lose my mind. Can’t we just have something good, for once? Over.”

*static*

Beeeeeeeeep

Ahh, so here we are again. Back to asking questions about the future, huh?

β€œWhere do you see yourself in 10 years?” Or some variation thereof is a question I loathe.

Again, β€œfuture” is vague here.

Luckily I have some images already from the last future post all saved up πŸ˜‚

My future? The future of the next generation? The world?

What my plans are for the next week I’m off?

And why so many questions about the future lately?

Hmmm…I wonder.

Is AI plotting our final demise?

Highly doubtful! The thing can’t even spell…yet. πŸ˜‰

Anyways. Enough yammering.

Are you ready?

Let’s go!

Faster than the speed of light!

So, my previous post about the future and the β€œworries” I have regarding such…states pretty much what I’m going to say in this one.

I’m trying not to think too hard or too long about the future.

I’m wanting much more often to be present and mindful of the time I have right here and now.

Futuristic hike? Yes, please! But also, there’s some here on planet Earth I still have yet to experience

When I was younger, I spent a lot of time β€œwishing away” time.

β€œOh, things will be better when this or that happens.”

β€œIf I only I had x, y, and z, then I’d be set.”

β€œIn 5 years from now, I’ll be blah, blah, and blah.”

I’ll take this view from my office of the future, thanks!

And truthfully, either none of that stuff happened, or doesn’t matter at all right now.

It’s great to have goals and plan for future achievements, those of which I obviously have.

As we all should.

A swim on another planet? You betcha!

But I try not to spend so much time thinking of how the future will play out. Instead I think of it as building up each day in my life as a cumulative affect, where I can look back and say, β€œWow, yes, I’ve really come far.”

It happens all the time.

You slowly chip away at something you’d like to change.

Professionally, personally.

Ahh, seems we still haven’t found a way to make IV coffee infusion a thing yet, though – that’s OK, I like drinking it far too much as it is! β˜•οΈ

A habit, let’s say.

Making little changes each and every day. Consistently is what gets you there.

You work at it, every day, consistently – and then finally you realize you’re exactly where you need to be in life.

It’s your life after all. Nobody else’s. And no one is gonna do it for you.

I’m not really sure how I feel about the world of the future, however

Future?

Sure, I’m looking forward to all great things, big and small.

Enjoyable times with friends and family, loved ones.

That vacation I want to finally take.

Promotions or better job offers.

That hike I want to complete (that I need to train for! Cough, cough).

That most-needed day off I’ve been craving all week.

I think it’s time to get back to reality…the present moment

But I think in order to be excited about those things and to be grateful for such, we need to appreciate the here and now.

Because the present is what’s right in front of us.

And that’s what we really should be looking towards.

Haha, and I just commented on yours!
One night off! And it’s dwindling down slowly, but hey. Gonna make the most of it. Thank you! 😊

  1. Well said Laura be present always be present. That’s why they say today’s a gift of the present.

Don’t worry about tomorrow just a waste of time or yesterday. It’s also a waste of time, very hard lessons. I’ve had to learn about 50 million times… 😊

    • Yes, I think we all have wasted a lot of time worrying about the future and ruminating on the past. So extremely hard to keep your mind focused in the present, but it really does bode well for the best outcomes! Thanks for your comment 😊 much appreciated

  2. To paraphrase Sammy Hagar when Van Halen played “Right Now” live.
Yesterday? Fuck Yesterday! It doesn’t mean shit! And tomorrow? Tomorrow might never come. There’s only one thing we need to care about and that’s right here…
    Right now.

Now that I have inserted Van Halen into a conversation today πŸ˜„

Nice post and far too true. 😊

  3. WP obviously thinks its bloggers are neurotic, and also 13 years old at base age. I’m at least 25, for goodness sake. πŸ™‚ Glad you had such fun responding though!

    • πŸ˜‚ very true, I tried to make it a fun time. But it ended up being more detailed than I liked, haha.
Back to work tonight. Dreams and sleep 0 this week 😫 hope you’re doing well ❀️

      • Bummer about the dreaming and sleep! Also work, of course. πŸ˜‚

I dreamt a lot, but little of consequence. One image I would definitely not let you make an image of and WP would not approve of. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Also yesterday I felt sooooo groggy so I’m not sure I can keep with that supplement. I’ll try again when I have 2 days off in a row. πŸ™‚

      • Haha, oh man, I would love to know what that one is about πŸ˜‚
And yes, I don’t take it everyday either, only when I know I’m going to actually have time to sleep, but I don’t recall it making me too groggy. Don’t think you have to take it every night, however. Sorry you felt so groggy through 😒 I definitely understand not keeping up with it being too tired πŸ˜ͺ
        Off to bed for me!

  4. lol to that throwback about AI not being able to spell!! πŸ˜‚

Also, Back to the Future is my favorite movie so you immediately garnered my interest when you titled your post accordingly. No deep analysis about Marty McFly though? I was tricked!

    • Haha!! πŸ˜† I was wondering if anyone was gonna mention the title! It’s a fav of mine too! And yes, AI can’t spell, thankfully. πŸ˜‚ at least the AI generators can’t seem to very well, anyways.
β€œBack to” mainly because it’s the second prompt in about a week talking about β€œthe Future” lolll

  5. A great post, Laura, as always!
I absolutely agree with you! The present moment is the only moment we can truly influence and experience to the fullest. The future is constantly shaping and changing, and the past is mostly about memories and imagination. Nothing exists except now πŸ™‚
I love the philosophical depth of your posts; they often make me ponder so many things!

    • Thank you, that’s so very kind of you to say πŸ™ and yes, I agree our future is very malleable and we can hopefully make it the way in which we want to 😊
