Those Were The Days…

Which food, when you eat it, instantly transports you to childhood?

A bit of nostalgia today, and with the prompts in general lately.

I was definitely inspired also by Stephanie’s post with the musings on Miami (haha, maybe that should be a post in itself or something!) and so it got me thinking back…

Something I try to avoid, at times, but this is happy, anyways! 😊

3 simple things came to mind (of course, 3 is my favorite number, after all!)

Without further ado…

My sister used to work here when she was in high school for a bit. She’s older than me, and many times after a softball game we’d be here…it’s just got that nostalgic vibe, a juke box, with a simple menu, and it’s just darn good burgers (not the dry ass hockey pucks, OK?!) 😂

Next!

A place that no longer exists.

Huh?

Yes…my stepfather used to own a restaurant on the Pompano Beach Pier…he sold it before Hurricane Wilma in 2005, luckily. However, after the hurricane, the place wasn’t built back up for many, many years.

A great amount of memories spent there, eating fresh caught sea food, listening to Grateful Dead night, and fishing off the pier. I wish I had more photos! (This was before everyone had a cell phone attached to them 24/7, I would wager).

Ahh…seaside memories. The smell of fresh salt air, the feel of the ocean breeze on your skin.

And finally…

But why do AI hands always gotta be so dang wonky?!

Anything my Nana cooked or baked.

It doesn’t snow in Florida – we’ll just pretend that’s rain outside lol 😆

I would give anything to taste her food again.

Thanks for the visit down memory lane!

Happiest of Fridays to you all!

But let’s keep it easy and calm, as there’s quite a lot of energy in the air, especially with the Full Moon looming about…

I know I will be hibernating a bit 😆

*deep breath*

Here’s to a great weekend!

  1. I think this is lovely. No to the hocky puck burgers! I said this on Stephanie’s blog, but “someone” in my family served burgers from the grill and my 5 year old son asked me why he’d been served a charcoal briquette. He was wrong, of course, but oh, so right at the same time. LOL

I love how you told about the pier and the vintage feeling burger joint. I bet your Grandma was such a special lady. 🌺🩷

  2. Perfect trip down memory lane! I’m all nostalgic but in the best ways! I’m baking this weekend … that’s that! I have to smell chocolate chip cookies and then pine over eating just one (LOL, ya right) !!! Next day turns into mad exercise 😉 Happy hibernating, Loveee !!

    • Can I come bake with you?! And then we’ll eat just one (LOL) cookie and then hardcore exercise will commence the next day! Ahhh, the pain. 😆
And then afterwards, hibernating will be at the forefront. lol
      Loveeee!!! ❤️

  3. I loved this…and you got me with the Grateful Dead. I’d give anything but the living to be sitting in a ’79 CJ5 Golden Eagle dark blue Jeep with a bikini top snarfin’ down Thrasher’s fries in Ocean City MD listening to Sugar Magnolia and Sunshine Daydream mix! Thank you.

  4. Wonderful environments! I don’t think I ever visited the Pompano Beach pier, which must have been the best thing ever, a home-away-from-home feeling when someone close owns a business like that. It’s nice to hear about your Nana again. There’s such warmth in your tone and these images, with or without normal hands. 🙂

  5. If you have any recipes from your Nana or your Step Dad’s restaurant please do try recreating them and please share them with us with pictures if possible. I’m a food enthusiast and would like to try the recipes. Thanks for sharing, have a great day!

    • That’s very true! The only thing is I don’t like how small the boxes have become! But definitely does have the same effect in a lot of ways! Thanks for commenting 😊

  6. Sounds like some wonderful Memories. I can relate to Mama’s cooking. I would give anything to have even the simplest home cooked meal from my Grandmother. Those moments that we took for granted when we were younger. 😭😭.
Great Post and Love the Pictures…
