Hermetic…heretic?

Daily writing prompt
Do you practice religion?

Haha. Hah.
Welllllll.

Here we go!
What is the answer, you think?
You guys definitely know I pray.

The question is, to whom?
Perhaps I’d like to keep some parts of my life a bit more private, if I may do so. Because some things are sacred, after all.

However, if you’re asking if I have faith…

Not too bad, if I do say so myself. The hands are a bit wonky. However, I could’ve probably made it even better, if I wasn’t bound by the constraints of having to leave for work. Oh, the perils of “work,” ugh. (which some people undoubtedly see as their religion, I’m sure).

The answer is absolutely.
I’ve seen and felt wayyyy too much to not know, within in my heart, mind, body, and spirit …there is more.

Way, way more.

This is what I yammer on about, almost every day. And the only way to find that out many times, is going within yourself and looking deeply.

You don’t have to call it religion if you don’t want to.

You don’t have to give it a label.
I’m sure some would call me a flat-out “heathen.”

The thing is, there are far more wolves in sheep’s clothing who are supposedly “pious,”and that goes for all aspects in the world, not just religion.

Fake masks, spiritual masks, masquerades, smoke and mirrors, hidden in plain sight.

Of course I’d like to drink the ambrosia of the gods. Who wouldn’t? (Don’t look too closely at the faces, please) 😅

For the path I’m on, it’s important for me to accept all things. Maybe not to necessarily believe in said things, but to accept that it’s out there and could be a possibility.

I don’t discount anything. Especially miracles.

Some religions believe Reiki is evil.

Some religions believe communicating with spirits and deities are bad (even the “good” deities).

Higher self? What’s that?

Some people are really against things they don’t understand.

And some people probably think I need a psych eval. 🤣😂

And that’s OK. Let them think that.

Yeah, yeah…I used this already on Sacrificial Offering, but I didn’t know the dang daily prompt was going to ask about religion and it fits!

Follow one strict paradigm or doctrine? I can’t, it’s just not in me simply because I’m way too curious and adventurous about other types of spiritual practices and religious beliefs and traditions.

Like most things in life. I want to know more. And have a thirst for knowledge.

If you want to call what you practice a religion, that’s absolutely fine, just don’t expect everyone to have the same views, experiences, or beliefs that you do.

Thats why some traditions are classified as occult or esoteric, not everyone is interested in things that are not widely practiced or accepted.

Everyone needs to find their own way.

Because we are all blessed (or cursed) in different ways.

Now, who wants to join the religion of coffee? Got any suggestions for the name of that religion, specifically?

Thanks for reading my musings. You are well appreciated!

  1. The most holy roastery?

My take is that it’s not my place to tell anyone else what they can believe, any more than it is theirs to tell me. Live and let live, to each their own.

      • I’m a nurse so unfortunately I work in a profession that’s 24/7 😂 and I’ve been doing it for years, butttt…I honestly feel like you never get used to it, sleep during the day when you can, and lots of naps. Lol

      • I admire your ability to make it happen. It’s incredible work. I have a few students who were nursing majors and I never knew how they could get it all done. Thank you for doing what you do ☺️

      • Well, thank you so much! It’s definitely a balancing act, one that I’m not always great at, haha. I gripe about wanting to leave nursing all the time, you are right it’s a tough job! And thank you again, that’s so appreciated 😊 you teach music, right? That’s an awesome profession!

      • If you did leave, what do you think you would do? I hope you don’t – we need people like you! But, always fun to ponder ☺️

Yes! I’m a vocal music instructor at a two-year college. I direct choir, vocal jazz, a jazz combo, and teach private voice and piano lessons. It’s my dream job and I still can’t believe I get to do it!

      • That’s awesome!! 👏 👏 and yeah, it’s always great to be able to do what you dream of and what fulfills you, such a cool thing to hear about from someone as so many of us are stuck in difficult jobs or jobs we don’t like. I wish I had continued playing piano when I was younger! Music is so important. 😊
        And thank you!
I probably would always do nursing even if it was just a part-time gig, but my dream really honestly is to write 😂 surprise, surprise, like probably 90% or higher of all of WordPress, lol.

      • You can always play piano on the side – I truly believe music is accessible no matter where you are in life. Always a way to find fulfillment in it.

Writing seems to come pretty naturally to you. I wish I had your drive. I was going very consistently for awhile and then other life stuff got in the way. But I really enjoy reading all this WordPress content and interacting when I can. Keep it up!

      • It’s definitely something I’d love to get back into! Music is definitely so soothing. Thanks for the encouragement, and also about the writing! 😊 I do hope you find something that makes you want to write soon, it can be hard sometimes and I have my moments when I feel burnt out or just not feeling it that particular day, lol. But I kinda try to make myself do it, like a therapy or something I guess.
Happy to have your interaction here, and hopefully we’ll see a post from you soon! 😊

      • Well if you ever wanna do lessons, I know a guy 😂

I do have a collaborative post coming out soon in June. I have a long list of topics I want to write about and every once in awhile I make a plan. Collaborations are the best way to force it! Of course, all video game-related content. My students get a kick out of how dweeby all my social media is 🤓 I love it.

      • Haha! Thanks for that 😊 much appreciated! I agree there, if you have to write something; you will. I have lists too and things I’ve wanted to write on for months, it’s just building up to it, finally. You’ll get there,
I’m sure. 👍 Video game content, awesome! Looking forward to it 🙂

  2. Wow, that’s a really thoughtful perspective Laura! Totally get where you’re coming from—faith and spirituality can be deeply personal and varied. It’s great that you’re open to exploring different paths and finding what resonates with you. And hey, as long as it brings you peace and understanding, that’s what truly matters!

    • Thanks for your equally thoughtful comment, Claire. 😊 Most people find religion uncomfortable to talk about openly. It is most definitely a very personal matter, and I agree with you that what brings us our peace is the most important aspect, overall

  3. You are appreciated too, Laura! There’s so much more room in a question like this. I’ve read an atheist’s post this morning and nodded along yes, and now I’ve read your post an nodded along yes. 🙂

Labels and the idea that we have to have teams for every aspect of life is the real issue. To know whether someone is religious in the sense that they actually practice the aspirations of their faith, takes a lot more than looking at a label.

    • Awww thank you for this 😊 yes, I wanted to write more and more cause I can keep going and going lol, there’s so many things left unsaid, and it’s true – there’s so many different facets. Many things can be true about belief and non-belief. The labels certainly don’t help, especially when there’s so many blurred lines and you’re someone who “feels and knows” stuff 😆

  4. I know what you mean, I struggle with the ‘absolute truth’ spouted by some faiths, I fear they seek only control and yet they don’t know it. There is so much we don’t know and so much that we don’t understand that to ‘not know’ and follow a path of knowledge to seek understanding is the most divine thing to do.

    • Thank you for your comment 😊 and yes I do have trouble sometimes with the “blindly follow,” I think everyone should have their own awareness and understanding of what’s important to them and cultivate their own faith, whatever that may mean for someone. I agree with you, there’s definitely so much out there to learn. 😊 thanks for sharing your thoughts here 🙏

  5. What people don’t understand, they hate. Your right. It’s always a bit awkward to force people to accept and abide by certain principles. Something about religion is just like a personal parcel; everyone has the right to untie the parcel how they wish.
The unknown can be very scary, and it’s natural to feel threatened by things we don’t understand. This fear can lead to prejudice and discrimination.
However, it’s important to remember that while everyone has the right to their own beliefs, they also have a responsibility to respect the beliefs of others. Avoiding harmful stereotypes, stimulating understanding and tolerance, and engaging in respectful dialogue…

    • Agree with you there on those points 😊 absolutely everyone has a right to their own beliefs and practices. I agree people often are afraid of things they don’t understand or agree with. Yes, respectful conversation is highly important about sensitive topics such as this. Thank you 😊 for sharing your view 🙏

This! This was just perfect, I feel the same about religious point of worldview and life in general 🙂
Too curious and too thirsty for knowledge. And of course everyone should walk their own, unique path in this 🙂
Wonderful read! I agree with you a lot, as always 🙂
