Well, this turned out to be a post with a bit of yammering (not my intention at all, but hey, youโve been warned).

New moon is upon us, with the night sky appearing darker than usual. New moons have heightened energy, just as full moons do.
This is a perfect time for new beginnings, and to set your intentions.

And to look up, if youโre so inclined. The darker sky sometimes showcases the brightest stars.
In energy work, I often like to use phases of the moon, (and planetary hours, which are a bit more complicated, however, Iโm quite sure Marvellous Nightmare could do a wonderful job of explaining them, since she structured all her blog theme days around the planetary system, how clever). ๐ I like to use the lunar phase that corresponds the best with my intention for my work, to give it the greatest power possible when Iโm performing said work.

That is, if I can. If some type of energy protection or cleansing is an emergency, I donโt wait for the moon phase. But itโs nice and helpful if the time is right.
So, what do I mean, anyways? Well, the moon has phases of new, waxing, full, waning.
๐๐๐๐
Letโs start there.
When the moon is new, itโs a great time to set your intentions or manifestations as I mentioned, writing things down, clearing out the old, performing cleansing, healing work. Start a new routine. A new chapter begins. However, emotions can definitely be heightened, and things can be hidden, itโs the darkest phase, after all.

As the moon enters its waxing phase, and itโs on its journey to getting fuller, I like to do work which draws in good and positive things. So, if I want to draw in more money, wealth, prosperity, Iโll light a candle and work with the energy of drawing in opportunities to me. (For example, I may get a lot of overtime shifts at work). I like to use green candles for growth and success.
Focusing on expanding, abundance, increasing. Like the moon.

The waxing moon typically phases out (what?) after about 2 weeks, and then becomes the full moon. The full moon can definitely increase a lot of chaotic but good energy around us. It is also when all things are heightened, so a great time to really bring in a lot of energy toward the things you want to obtain. This also can be a great time for meditation, connecting with our higher self, performing rituals. Think any task that is big energy, with the moon setting that into overdrive. Dreams are often vivid and intensified during this time, as well.

However, I will say this. Donโt make any life-changing decisions during a full moon (energy lasts for about 3 days) as our emotional and physical (letโs also not forget spiritual) state are often elevated to where we are more reactionary then normal.
So, donโt quit your job and tell your boss to go suck it (I think I did this before, but not just during the full moon) because youโre pissed off, or go and get into a fight with a loved one. Let the energy cool, dissipate. Deep breath. Hospitals are always crazy during the full moon. Nurses and doctors and EMTs always give the warning when itโs upon us.
And here we thought science and spirituality didnโt mix, after all!
Also – Do not, do not overwork or over stress yourself during this time. More psychotic breaks happen during the full moon than any other time. Seen it with my own eyes.

Finally. Waning moon. ๐
A great time to decrease or eliminate things we no longer need in life, patterns that are no longer serving us. Releasing, letting go. Think of a bad habit you want to change or nullify, and this is a great time to do it. Reflecting on lessons learned (hmmm, I did this a few days ago without thinking of the moon phase, perhaps Iโm more in tune than I thought?)
Expressing gratitude. But I believe you should do that during every moon phase. ๐

I really do need to get a proper camera. This post was never even supposed to be about a moon phases, either. It just came out. I could probably write a better post later. ๐
I hope you all are having a wonderful week thus far, and Happy Hump Day!

But without proper camera you took wonderful shot! Well written.

Interesting Laura. One of the points that jumped out at me, (apart from your great photos…No2. is the best I think with that imposing tree๐), is the fact you see a visceral difference during full moons in hospitals. I guess a great place to see this difference play out, and good evidence and credibility to the moon having influence on us? Hope you are keeping well…Jay๐

Thank you so much, Jay! ๐ glad you liked the photos. I think a lot of people would agree that thereโs something about the lunar phases that affect the atmosphere and energy around us, even othersโ personalities. Thatโs where the old term โlunaticโ came from, anyways. I am well, thank you ๐ hope you are too.

You are welcome Laura. It is an interesting subject, one that adds more weight to be point of everything being connected, in the unified field if you will. Pleased you are well!…all good here too thanks๐…Jay

Great post! I enjoy reading about your experience with Moon phases! โค
I recently planned to write about Moon Phases too (I already wrote about Sun phases :D), and I'll do it at my own pace. I mean, there are never enough posts about the Moon and its magic, right? ๐
Definitely, I'll also write about planetary hours and days; I planned to do it anyway. Just at my own time because I'm slow, don't forget ๐
By the way, there is not much discrepancy between contemporary science and spirituality; quantum physics, string theory, and so on are all about it ๐
Happy hump day to you as well ๐คฃ

And Iโm sure you could most definitely do an in-depth post, I honestly wasnโt even going to write about it but then I got going haha, but Iโm sure I left something out. Canโt ever have too much info on the moon! ๐
And take your time, of course ๐ there are topics Iโve wanted to make posts on for months and just havenโt yet (looking over at you, Sacred Geometry, soonโฆvery soon) lmao ๐คฃ
I think some realms of science absolutely do accept and embrace spirituality, yes. Alchemy, and as you said, physics. Psychology, haha, I had to stop myself from typing that word again โpsycheโ ๐ perhaps I should make a post for the goddess of the soul, after all! lol
And thank you! Hope itโs a great day going forward. ๐

I’m not sure how it looks in the US, but in Europe, we have many open-minded psychologists who use spiritual tools alongside scientific ones in their sessions.
I studied psychology myself for a bit, and I’ve always viewed it as a branch of spirituality, even though it has tried very hard to convince everyone that it is a science. That is why it relies on statistics everywhere it can.
However, in my opinion, statistics don’t always work well when we apply it to people; we’re not just some technical data.
Statistics makes us ignore rare cases, creating a false belief that untypical people don’t exist or don’t count.
Either way, I despise it ๐
You’re welcome, and the same to you!
PS: Can’t wait for the sacred geometry posts!

Thank you! ๐
Honestly I guess it just depends, thereโs a good deal of them out there, all with their own beliefs.
Yeah, you absolutely have to rely on your own research. Thatโs for many, many things as well. ๐
Thatโs very true, we arenโt robots, after all, even though Iโm sure some forms ofโฆah hem, government would like to see us that way. Lol ๐
And I always look forward to your posts! ๐

I can’t imagine what you could do with a so-called proper camera. Your photographs are really, so entrancing!
My son always laughs at me about how interested I am in the moon when we walk the dog at night. “Yes, there it is mom.” haha ๐ Of course, I loved this post. I think part of us is aware of the moon phases eve when not consciously intending to be, but that makes consciously intending more interesting.

Itโs there, yes! We are captivated by it! ๐ and everyone always looks at me crazy when Iโm taking photos of the moon and sky. And thank you for saying that ๐ ๐
Glad you liked it. I definitely do believe the moon and stars have some influence on us, at least a bit, anyways. ๐

This is a very interesting and informative summation of the moon phases. Weโre still in Hawaii, and although we havenโt been there on this particular trip Bishop Museum in Honolulu has an entire room with a twenty-eight day explanation of the moon phases. They were very important to early Polynesians, for planting, for fishing, for navigating, for getting married, for giving birth, for everything. Each important event had its proper day or night according to the moon in the sky. It was a fascinating thing to explore, and fascinating to think humankind has been watching and thinking about the moon as long as thereโs been humankind.

Thank you! How is Hawaii? By the way I took a look at Under the Volcano and will be reading it soon! Thanks again for the suggestion. ๐
Yes, many cultures, traditions, religions are captivated by the moons influence, and I can really understand why. That is so, so awesome that they have an entire room dedicated to the moon phases, I would love to see that one day. I often do try to take into account some of the energies of the day and night as it relates to the moon, and sometimes you can feel a bit crazy saying, โhey perhaps things are out of whack because the moon is fullโ but I think it does lend to some explanation! Thanks for sharing, I loved learning about this! ๐ ๐

Hawaii is amazing. Iโm a lucky man. Be aware that Under the Volcano is very much about alcoholism. In case thatโs a trigger. Itโs also about being a human being on this hard planet. Which is what I love about it.

Thank you! I work with alcoholics (among others) for a living, so it better not be a trigger lol ๐ thank you for the warning, however. I can am open to most all and any suggestions. And thatโs amazing, Hawaii sounds like a dream. There are some epic hikes there, as well. Did you check out any of the volcanos? (Speaking of) lol

No hikes this time. We had an awesome house on the beach in North Shore, Oahu just down from Waimea Bay and the Banzai Pipeline. โEddie Would Goโ is a great book about the spirit of the Hawaiian people and that place. This time we just lay in the sand and watch the surfers and the turtles swim past. Another time we came we hiked to the heiau (shrine) on the cliffs above Waimea Bay, where Captain James Cook once came ashore. I felt a lot of spiritual energy there. I didnโt feel like it belonged to me thoughโmore like I was being tolerated. Itโs an amazing place and should be treated with reverence.

Oooh that sounds amazing. I need to look into that book, took! Thanks for the recommendation ๐ thatโs an awesome piece of history to explore, no doubt! I feel you on the respect and honor you feel among the spiritual ๐ you should write about your experience there, if youโre so inclined. Enjoyed reading your comment, at least!
