Very Superstitious 🎵

Are you superstitious?

Writing’s on the wall. 🎶

Yeah, another song comin into my head.

Haha.

Where do I even begin?

Sheba and her brother Pumpkin (I’ll let you guess who’s who) 😆 they’ll be 1 next month!

Let’s go wayyy back.

To the year 1988.

35 years ago; to the early part of the month of October, shall we?

Right after I was born.

Ewwwwww,” you’re probably thinking.

Perhaps a most normal response, for someone who isn’t in the medical field.

I promise, this won’t be too gross.

The doctor comes in and tells my mother that I was born with a caul.

A what?

“A caul. A veiled birth. She was born with a veil. Some certain cultures believe it to be important. Would you like to keep it?” he had asked her at the time.

“Nope. Why?”

Thanks mom.

There is a saying:

“Born with a veil, gifted with second sight,” but we won’t get into that now.

The point is, there are a lot of superstitions surrounding being born with said caul, and “en caul” births in general.

Edited to add:

This is a caul. Photo is from the Witchcraft Museum in Boscastle, Cornwall (but found randomly on the internet)

Caul birth is extremely rare, occurring less than 1 in 80,000 births. I’ve also read apparently they happen more often when a child is pre-mature, but I was a late baby; I was supposed to be born on the 1st, but ended up in this treacherous world on the 3rd.

Anywho. Enough background. Onto the superstitious part.

It is said that sailors, often known for being very superstitious, would often seek out auctions to buy cauls as they believed the bearer of such would be protected from ever drowning.

Dang, mom. Thanks! Missed out on that one!

I kid, I kid.

There are quite a few other superstitious beliefs surrounding the caul:

From The Anatomy Lab – The Veiled Child Dang, and to think I’m going to miss out on becoming a vampire 😂

When I was in my OB/GYN rotation in nursing school, my instructor brought up caul births. I asked her if she had ever seen one, and then told her I was born as such.

“Wow! A baby born with a veil is considered to be very lucky!” I remember her telling me.

And I am, I think.

However, I am not more special than anyone else.

So, does this quite long story answer the question, then?

Am I superstitious?

I suppose that depends.

I don’t really believe in coincidences.

I do happen to own a black cat.

I also believe moon cycles can sometimes affect the environment and perhaps maybe our moods at times.

But that also comes from working in a field where “crazy shit happens during a full moon.”

It is true, that I often straddle the veil (no pun intended) between worlds, most often in my dreams.

However, as most of you probably know by now, I don’t subscribe to a lot of the bullshit in the “love and light”community.

I’ve never been one to believe one thing or another to be absolutely true or false.

I don’t like to live by a set of rigid rules that other people have made up.

Superstitious?

I’ll leave that up for anyone who reads this to decide, if they so choose.

With that being said – Who wants to partake in Taco Tuesday with me?!

  1. Tacos rock! 😀

I wouldn’t take the whole Romanian part too seriously. Fascinating country overall, but their folklore is utterly obsessed with vampires. Anything and everything causes them to appear.

    • There’s a lot of intriguing information out there about them! And yes, I think it’s always good to have a bit of skepticism towards everything, but also believing in a sense of “anything can happen” haha. It opens us up to so much more, I think! Down the rabbit hole, and all.

  2. My mother used to tell stories about a playmate who was born with a vail. He fould see ghosts and would not enter certain rooms in their house. Her stories would scare us half to death. I never thought of it as good luck, but I suppose that makes sense. I hope GOD is always on your side. That’s better than luck.

    • Wow! Thank you! I appreciate that! I hope God is always on my side as well, and I do feel that is so😊 thank you so much for commenting and sharing your story! It was most interesting! I’ve read a lot of different stories, and watched some videos about people’s testimonies as well. I can say, I do live an interesting life, I suppose, haha.
