Into the World of Dreams #2 – 07/03/2024

Hello everyone, and Happy Wednesday! I hope the middle of the week is treating you well.

Stepping into the dreamscapeโ€ฆ

Welcome to the second installment of Into the World of Dreams – where we can open up to discuss and analyze our own personal dreaming, interpretation of dreams, the dreamscape itself, lucid dreaming, prophetic dreams, the psychology of dreaming, spiritual experiences, visions and premonitions you may have had, or anything else youโ€™d like to talk about!

Whew! That was a lot. ๐Ÿ˜†

So, re-capping from last week’s post, it seems many of you have dreams about running, being chased, or feeling lost. An interesting consensus, considering it is prevalent among so many. I do find patterns in dreaming extremely fascinating, especially what others interpret from the dreams themselves. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Anyways, for this week, and without further ado!

Lucid dreaming is fascinating to induce for a multitude of reasons

Iโ€™d like to start off by linking Stephanieโ€™s post here where she wrote about an extremely detailed dream she had, which includes many interesting themes but also a highly curious description of cats swimming in a pond, which is the inspiration for these images below:

We really can dream the impossible! Lol ๐Ÿ˜†
And if you have another dream theme youโ€™d like me to generate, I can certainly try! No promises, though!

Haha, dreams can certainly conjure up some strange and unlikely visuals, canโ€™t they?

Not sure if any of these images will do it justice, but it was worth a shot!

Her post also details the WBTB method, which is an effective technique for those who are interested in inducing lucid dreams. This technique involves sleeping for approximately 5 hours, setting an alarm to wake up, staying awake for a short amount of time, (around 30 minutes or so) while doing a quiet activity, then going back to bed. This is the quick and dirty version of it, anyways. Much appreciated, Stephanie!

Does anyone ever have floating or out of body dreams? What about astral projection?

So, this week. I decided to start taking Mugwort* capsules again, which I find enhances the vividness of dreams.

Iโ€™ve noticed that little details are definitely enhanced, and Iโ€™m off this week from work so Iโ€™ve had more time in general to sleep (although, Iโ€™ve spent a pretty large amount catching up on sleep, too!) Hibernating, if you will.

Firstly, I dreamt about being in a large place, kind of like a school. I went to get a drink from a countertop area that was set up inside and I remembered specifically the lady working the counter asking me to pay $3.33, a number which follows me everywhere from time to time.

After that, I went through door, after door, after door, akin I guess to traveling deeper into the recesses of my mind. Finally, I reached what one would probably call an auditorium or a concert hall.

What lessons have you learned? Is it one that repeats over and over?

Here, there was obviously some type of class or learning going on, with multiple people I knew, (that will lead into the next element of dreams), but I can only imagine this type of scenario is trying to teach me something or get me to pay attention.

In fact, there are several lessons I have learned recently in waking life, so this dream makes sense in ways.

Now, onto people. In dreams, often certain people will show up, but they don’t always look like themselves. Huh?

They look completely like someone else, but when you lock eyes with the person in the dream or feel their energy around you, you just know it’s them, despite the appearance. How could this be? I’ve had this happen fairly often so, the explanation I got from a trusted source is that it’s possible I’m dreaming of a previous incarnation of said person.

I think this could be a plausible explanation, but also may not resonate with all depending on their beliefs surrounding multiple lives. What do you all think? Have you had this type of occurrence in dreams?

Hiding behind a mask? Or a previous incarnation? I think our feelings in general towards the person in said dream may offer insight or hints

I also think these dreams could represent someone not presenting as they truly are, wearing a mask, if you will – could be interpreted as them hiding elements of their personality upon waking, (possibly some less desirous traits?) but their true self showing up in the dream realm.

We often can’t hide our true selves in dreams, it seems.

The final dream theme I wanted to explore was also prompted by Stephanie’s dream, and one which occurs quite often in mine as well. Houses.

Dreams of house – dreams of self?

In general, I feel house dreams are often about self; your identity, repressed thoughts even. The state of self, parts of us that may be neglected, what thoughts or feelings may be affecting our inner world – our walls, so to speak. I often find the condition of the house is in correlation to the condition of our mind (and sometimes body) at the time of the dream.

Now, what about you?

Recent dreams?

Have you had any dreams before with the themes mentioned above?

Experiences with lucid dreams?

Or anything else that you might like to share!

Also, I would like to give a shout out to Cee Tee Jackson, who ended up writing multiple entries regarding prophetic dreams and visions heโ€™s had throughout the years which stemmed from the original dream discussion post last week. His post starts here and is a wild ride, so be prepared!

Thank you so much for your contributions and support, and I hope you all are having a lovely day.

And sweet dreams!

A post with some yammering, but it is a “discussion,” after all. ๐Ÿคฃ

*Mugwort (along with most dreaming herbs) is / are generally considered safe, but I want to give the disclaimer that if youโ€™re unsure, please speak to your doctor or a medical professional (yes, Iโ€™m a healthcare professional, but Iโ€™m not a doctor) before taking any medication or herbs if youโ€™re concerned it may interact with medication you currently take or are worried about possible allergies. Thank you!

Dreams and energy in general may be heightened in the next few days, with the new moon upon us. A great time for cleansing, and new beginnings. Sleep well!

  1. Lucid dreams are part and parcel of much of my time spent in the dreaming. Those are the ones I pay most attention to and they are the ones that guide me most in my waking.

I haven’t had dreams *recently* about running, being chased or feeling lost. I have those on occasion, but they tend to feel more like standard dreams when they occur. Seeking (myself performing the act) tends to occur more often, but it is not like I am in pursuit.

Nor have I had mask/unmasking dreams recently. And my house dreams…? I’d rather not have those. Those dreams trend towards nightmare fuel category. Not that I mind so much nightmares — I think I’m the only person who I have met who takes those in stride. They are useful too. Just… not the house ones.

I used to have a recipe for an herbal tea that I mixed up myself to help induce a lucid state, but I’ve forgotten where I put it and it had at least two ingredients that should be used sparingly, if at all. At the time we were developing it, we were not aware of the toxicity that came with frequent use — but when the general public found out about those herbs and abused both, it was a discovery that made a good argument for their removal. I’ve since found other ways of getting there if I want that don’t involve anything aside from the mind, breathing techniques and rhythm.

    Interesting read, Laura. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Nice!! Thanks so much for your insightful response, Iโ€™d be interested in your recipe only for research purposes, just to know haha ๐Ÿ˜† but not to actually use, if that makes sense? But yeah, I do agree that itโ€™s easier when it just comes naturally, and they can be sooo vivid.
Gosh. I feel you on the house ones. I mentioned it because it came up recently on here while discussing another dream, but I had one not too long ago where I can only describe it as trying to climb out of hell. I wonโ€™t go into too much detail lest it triggers anything ๐Ÿ˜†
What dreams have you had recently that you donโ€™t mind sharing? Of the lucid kind? Or any, really? Haha
I started this discussion in hopes that I can remember more about my own dreams – it is the way I receive the most profound messages but if something is โ€œoffโ€ (I work a crazy shift, Iโ€™m extra tired, not getting enough sleep in general) itโ€™s harder for me to remember and I forget to write them down as much, so Iโ€™m hoping talking about them can help me remember more.
Definitely very grateful for your comment. ๐Ÿ˜Š I know dreams are weird for some people, some think nothing of them at all, or just arenโ€™t interested, so do so appreciate you sharing your experiences! ๐Ÿ™

      • The herbs I would have removed included Valerian and Kava Kava. Back when I still practiced in a a circle, another member and I delved deeply into herbal medicine before it was a big thing, so every formulae needed to be developed independently based on hard-to-find herbal “bibles”. Going off of memory, I believe it called for those above, along with your standard fare of chamomile, mints, catnip, raspberry leaves and whatnot (mostly to improve the taste, but each have their relaxation effects). I want to say we had a few more roots or herbs with cautionary advice associated with them, but in very low proportions — for the life of me, I can’t think of what those might have been (angelica root?). I recall that there was possibly some emmenagogueal effects, but generally not in a proportion to trigger flow and of little concern in that respect to me as a guy (LOL). The primary dream elements, however were the valerian and Kava Kava (she also used to explore a “flying witch” formulations without either, but I was never all that interested in those formulae). We also explored other hedge medicines when one or the other of us suffered from an ailment. It was a fun partnership within that group that sadly fell apart when I moved out of state.

My house dreams are a reoccurring nightmare with variations on the theme. There is usually something very awful in the secret subbasement or the space between the walls (occasionally in an attic). The reason I don’t care for them is that there is a putrid smell in the dream similar to that of a body decomposing (I smelled it several times since the first of these dreams in the waking world when I was studying forensics) and the smell lingers for a while after waking. It is also one of the nightmare scenarios in which I am unable to exert agency from within the dream — usually I can control a nightmare when I don’t like the direction it heads. Ancient evil kinds of things in those place, but it is the persistent smell of putrescine and lack of agency that bothers me most in those dreams.

I have a few other dreams that are lucid and of the reoccurring variety: other times and places, different people. Some are normal daily life in a different place, which can be confusing AF when you wake up. Am I dreaming or am I awake? These are generally pleasant, but never perfect, which can add to that confusion.

Others involve talking to my guides. I have several “visitors” and we sometimes sit around a campfire out of time and talk about heady things that I won’t bother folks with here. Those are surreal in some respects, but I’m so used to them that they no longer feel surreal.

I have another series in giant library where I can read for short periods the books within. I am following someone who has some of the answers I am looking for, or she knows which books I should open to find the answers. Sometimes I get some great insights, other times I come up empty handed. The woman is no one I know IRL, but she has appeared in other lucid dreams for more than half of my life. I consider her a guide of sorts.

And there are elements of oneiromancy (dream-divination) that intrigue me, but I’m somewhat skeptical of possibly having self-confirmation bias.

Whew — sorry about the length. I started writing and lost track of how much I was writing. Have a good evening. Hope your shifts even out, I know how that goes in your business.

      • Thanks so much for the details! This is highly interesting, as Iโ€™ve used both Valerian and Kava Kava. Valerian mostly in teas, and used Kava Kava for relaxation purposes. I really thought it would be some obscure herb I had never heard of. So that is wild! Valerian really does put you into a deep sleep.
Oh, Iโ€™m so sorry, the dream sensations becoming all too real definitely are what makes those types of dreams so unbearable. Too familiar with that smell myself, so I completely get it. I hate the loss of control feeling, that one is rough to get over. The one I canโ€™t stand is a prophetic type dream Iโ€™ve had before which has a gross element too, and itโ€™s all too real when it comes to predicting an illness. Hopefully that one is thwarted and doesnโ€™t actually come to pass ๐Ÿ˜ซ
Guide dreams are nice, Iโ€™ve recently been calling in ancestors more and (thanks for the reminder, need to do that this week) working with them if I can. Your book dreams almost sound like an akashic records or something similar. All too familiar with seeking something and coming up empty handed, or having the message act as a riddle and then figuring it out later.
I do understand the timing of things in dreams, I had one of those recently where I felt I dreamt about the time and then woke up and saw the time was as in the dream, but it felt real. Or who knows, maybe I wasnโ€™t dreaming at all. Confusing? ๐Ÿ˜‚ yes. Sometimes.
Are there specific breathing techniques you use to induce lucid dreaming? Thatโ€™s very interesting to me if youโ€™re at all interested in sharing.
And donโ€™t worry at all about the length ๐Ÿ˜Š all of it was quite interesting!

      • Oh no, nothing obscure — there was so very little available in the way of information before the internet and most of it was bog-standard Western herbalism. At least the information you could find back then was mostly reliable. I have seen some dangerous claims on the internet about the safety of some herbs, but most people don’t brew them in a way that actually makes them strong enough to be more than moderately worrisome. Most people are not patient enough to create a proper medicinal tea, nor do they care for the taste when they do. Tinctures are another story, however, but limit the chemistry, as do powdered forms in gelcaps.

I knew a few people back “in the day” who explored mandrake and belladonna, but the chances of accidental poisoning (and death) seemed like too high of a risk to mess around with either. Still, I knew someone else who did razor blade cut slivers of mandrake for their dreamwork and she invited to give me a paper-thin slice. I passed on the opportunity. Too risky when I was already discovering other ways without herbs to prep myself for dreaming.

I know there is a whole community who explore natural toxins for their magic work and I don’t want to discount their efforts, but that direction has always seemed more risk than reward in my personal cost/benefit calculus. And no one ever has accused me of playing things entirely safe, so hopefully that says something about the risks.

Much of the breathing technique is based in my foray into Zen and Taoist meditation, combined with visualization techniques to get myself into a relax and open state of mind, which seems to (for me at least) really set a stage for more complete dreaming. I used to employ ritual along with this, but ritual is more a tool that I eventually found to actually be a distraction from vivid dreaming. That said, however, that may be true only for me and your mind may find comfort in deep, controlled breathing exercises combined with ritual to help guide and inform your journeys. I also have spirit/ancestor companions who have decided to assist me after years of practice and having those on board is definitely a boon for lucid dreaming. When they agree to lend a hand, it is. Sometimes they are “not in the mood” or don’t see the point; those times I am left to my own devices.

As far as breath goes, the poet/seers of the Irish (as well as Norse) appear to have used “going under the cloak” (e.g., breathing under a permeable fabric to change the CO2/O2 mixture of their air supply) to enhance their visions. I can attest that it does have an impact on non-dreaming visualizations and it is far less dangerous than mandrake or other toxic alkaloids. It sometimes has an impact for me with dreaming, but I haven’t tested it enough to say how effective it is due to other considerations. But I assume it has the same or more intense impact on sleeping with a dense covering constraining the CO2/O2 ratios. By dense covering, I mean a blanket, wool shawl or oversized hoodie. Anyone reading this, please don’t use physical constraints like ropes or knotted scarves to limit airflow, or use plastics like vinyl raincoats to create your environment. The important part is to still be able to breathe. Stay safe and alive…

Here I go again… writing a book instead of just a comment. ๐Ÿ˜‰

        Happy dreaming!

      • Ok, I’m so annoyed because I wrote out a long reply, and it seems as though it didn’t come through at all, so I’m trying again! I finally hopped on my PC instead of mobile, so I can give this comment the rightful attention it deserves! Thank you so much for your patience. ๐Ÿ˜Š
So, I was saying I sometimes take Mugwort or Blue Lotus tinctures, not sure how effective they are. I just recently started taking Mugwort capsules again, and am thinking of pairing it with Valerian to see what kind of affect I get. I’ve heard of Mandrake and Belladonna, yes absolutely, never tried either, and that’s very true there’s a risk with everything and you have to know your tolerance/be aware and not get too crazy with experimenting I feel.
Thank you also for the information regarding the techniques and meditation too, I sometimes struggle with quieting my mind when it comes to meditation….visualization I have no problems with though, LOL. I understand completely about guides/ancestors…when they want to show you something, they will shove it in your face sometimes, over and over and over again, until you finally have to say “OK, I get it” lol. But other times, it’s like….leaving you out wondering, haha, to find your own way. I’m glad I’m not the only one who has this experience, some people think of guides in such a fluffy way and that they seem to lend a hand with everything…lol…no, no they don’t. I suppose we would never learn anything otherwise.
And …it’s so interesting you mentioned the “under the cloak” as I’ve never actually heard of this but may have done this in the past inadvertently and have always had a TON of dreams. It’s been years though, as I don’t cover up like that anymore when sleeping (too dang hot!) but I may have to just suck it up and crank my AC down to the lowest that it can go in this heat and attempt this again at some point. Thanks so much for sharing and it is highly interesting! No worries on writing a book, everything you said is of great interest to me and I’m so glad you offered some of your insights and experiences. Much appreciated! ๐Ÿ˜Š
And thank you again for your patience. So sorry this took 100 years to finally get back, haha!

      • No worries! It is fun to talk about some of this stuff again after so long without. I’m a patient person in most things. The opportunity the share and discuss is worth any wait.

I have not used either of those to the best of my recollection for dreaming, although I believe mugwort was likely an ingredient in what my friend may have concocted for herself. Neither of us (we formulated often as a team) had likely used Blue Lotus — I don’t recall it and access seems like it might have been likely limited at the time based on what I read this morning. While the herbal store where we purchased our raw ingredients had a huge collection of loose herbs, their focus was more on TCM and Western herbs grown primarily in the US.

The hardest part I’ve found with meditation is trying not to try to quiet the mind but to let the thoughts become visitors in your “open house”, passing through for a short time. It is more about not inviting them to stay than it is to banish them. For me, anyway.

Utiseta is kind of a Norse equivalent to the vision quest. I’ve found variations online that mention the use of the hood (as I mentioned previously). The covering with a blanket, hood, shawl is more associated with the Irish Filid and called “imbas forosnai”, which appears to be a form of mantic [divinatory] sleep. While not always mentioned in the texts, it appears it was commonplace to cover oneself up and people have theorized the changing of the air source quality as being part of the scientific reason for the induced visions. Granted, both talk of several days of effort and are oddly similar to the more familiar Lakota vision quest/”crying for a vision” [Haล‹blรฉฤeyapi] practices in a number of ways.

I do not envy you and the heat you are experiencing. I’d probably melt into an unseemly puddle in the middle of the living room if I had to endure that. One time, when I was younger, I was in Southern Florida in September and I recall wanting to crawl into the shade and just die. ๐Ÿ™‚

Good luck and thanks for putting up my sharing from the rubbish bin of information I’ve collected over the years.

      • Yeah, absolutely! I’m at work now and finally getting around to answering some comments from earlier today LOL. Thanks for your patience yet again while I catch up. Yeah, I’m unsure about Blue Lotus. I bought it for it’s meditative properties, but I haven’t really experienced much with it. Wondering if the strain I got is “meh” but I have a really high tolerance for a lot of things as well.
Oh yeah, I suppose my mind is always going with a million thoughts an hour, so it makes it difficult sometimes to allow it to reach that meditative trance state that I like. I think that’s why I resort to dream so often, because that’s when/where a lot of the messages come through….if I can simply remember them! LOL.
I still have to look into this “divinatory sleep” as I feel it’s something that would actually help, lol. Always love to learn something new, so will have to try it again at some point after I research. I also have been using utilizing black mirror scrying, but I haven’t had as much time to dedicate to that as I’d like. And here I am on a new moon at work, and it is certainly quite chaotic, as the new moons have been for me recently.
HAHA, omg, yes…the heat is certainly not for everyone. In fact, I’m sure it’s not for me either, but I was born here. Hopefully, not stuck here forever. LOL.
And not a rubbish bin at all! The knowledge we acquire over time, and practice, and with trial and error is always so important that we almost know intuitively what works and what doesn’t…always love sharing different techniques…and oddly enough in my sleep before work today I certainly had quite a few dreams. So, we’ll see! Thanks again. ๐Ÿ˜Š

  2. You did such an amazing job with these images, first of all! The cats are so close that it makes me wonder if I was dreaming the future when you would generate these pictures. ๐Ÿ™‚

The one beneath the cats is also just fantastic, but they all suit the dreamy feeling of this post well.

I’m very curious about the auditorium in your dream. I’ve only had a few dreams like that and found the scope memorable, also where I was vs. where others were. Were you aware of an occasion? Door after door after door…. hm. It makes me think of a counsel dream, so I wonder about advisers or consultants, or whether having them there in different guises is meant to draw attention to how thin the lines can be between familiarity and stranger-ness,

I’d wanted to journal a bit on my dream outside of WP, to just generate some associations and ask inquire more about the neglected gardens, but perhaps it’s sometimes better to just stay open to insight if it comes. ๐Ÿ™‚

Mugwort capsules came today and I’ve already taken one for tonight. Will report!

Got this quote in my inbox today: While the ego sleeps, the mind plays, proposing unexpected patterns of thoughts and new rays of relation. The gulf between self and world, that no-manโ€™s-land which in ordinary hours the ego so vigilantly patrols, closes down, allowing us to feel less separate and more connected, โ€œpart and particleโ€ of some larger entity. Whether we call that entity Nature, the Mind at Large, or God hardly matters.

    • Oh man! Prophetic dreams of the cats in the pond! ๐Ÿคฃ Sometimes it is meant to happen like that, but in a weird way? Maybe we are supposed to be having this conversation, and you pre-dreamt it! I know that specific element really struck me, and honestly I generated several images and was like, “I think this has gotta be it!” I love making the dreamy images. ๐Ÿ˜Š
Also, you are totally in line with me right now because I was pre-drafting my “what subjects are you an authority on?” post and EGO came up in the writing, pretty cool. That’s definitely staying in. I already finished the post and scheduled for later.
So interesting you are feeling the auditorium dream, I knew I was there, I was looking for someone specific and lots of elements were situated around people I knew also there – and I didn’t even think of a counsel dream, that is such a great interpretation and honestly super exciting. It’s possible it’s something to do with advising, but I didn’t even take that into account, so now I’ll be thinking of it more! Thank you. ๐Ÿ™‚ There definitely was a thin line in this dream, for sure. It stuck with me really for a long time.

Yay for Mugwort capsules,๐Ÿ™Œ hahaha please let me know if it enhances anything and if you have any dreams!
That quote is definitely one that’s gonna stick with me. It’s definitely got me feeling very connected. SO glad you shared! โค๏ธ

      • I responded elsewhere but good to keep things in dream comments posts for research purposes, lol My dreams last night were vivid but also turbulent. There was chasing and not a lot of continuity between scenes, but I think that’s because I didn’t get a chance to settle down deeply before I fell asleep. I was too too tired. ๐Ÿ™‚ There was some false waking, too.

Instead I would have liked to go through door after door after door! I love that. โค

  3. All of the above, but some components have … let’s say evolved over time and recently! BTW, the house image makes me want to put in an offer (lol)! I’m obsessed with this topic and your details and techniques are exciting to implement. The subconscious holds the most sacred keys to doors, yet seen and I’m so curious … I want to seek and learn everything!!!! P.s The stadium dream … I too and it was after crawling through a sporting event and a tunnel of people looking like Grecian times (Whaaaat!?) … and right before I take a seat, my best friend from high school who passed away (then) greeted me with a huge smile … I jolted awake! It was good seeing her beautiful face again ๐Ÿ™‚ !! Thank you for doing these and I will be reading everyone’s interpretations! Good night sweet girl and lovely dreaming with you ~ โค

    • Interesting on the evolving…AND YES the image of the house was a fun one to make, ๐Ÿ˜† as all the dreamy ones are. So glad you are into it, I do think the dreams definitely give us messages from not only our subconscious, but beyond. I feel you on wanting to know everything, always been that way myself. The stadium dream seems to be sticking out haha, and the funny part about it is I made several images for this one and when the Grecian columns came up I was like, this is it! haha ๐Ÿคฃand wow what a dream for you to have, thank you so much for sharing, it gave me chills…it sounds like it has so many elements of feeling real and like you were actually making a connection with her! ๐Ÿ˜Š

  4. Lucid dreams are fascinating, astral projections are journeys that we take every night when we sleep, the problem is that most of the time we don’t remember them when we wake up. Although there are techniques for safer and more vivid astral travel. Thank you for sharing with us!๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿปโœจ

Thatโ€™s why I started some of these posts, to try and start remembering more as I havenโ€™t been to as Iโ€™d like lately due to hectic schedule. ๐Ÿ˜Š thanks so much for sharing your input, and if you have any techniques youโ€™d like to share regarding astral travel, I would love to hear them ๐Ÿ™ thanks again!

      • I believe that our quality of life in today’s world greatly influences astral projections and also our connection with spirituality, healthy eating and energetic cleansing of the pineal gland. The less baggage in our mind, the more space to enjoy in the astral world and bring back those vivid memories when we wake up. Well, that’s a private opinion, maybe I could be wrong, but it’s an excellent topic and as always your illustrations enchant us.๐Ÿ˜‰โœจ๐Ÿ™

  5. Wonderful post! I’m sorry for replying so late; I was really exhausted. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

I’d also recommend reading before going to sleep to increase the vividness of dreams! I often dream about houses, which often denote roots, family, or psyche roots in my case.

Keep writing and sharing more of your wisdom! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • No worries at all, I’m still replying to comments 2 days later haha! And I feel you on the exhaustion, I have been sleeping far too much lately.
Reading before sleep does seem to help, yes you’re right. I definitely can see how houses would correlate to that as well. And thank you, you keep sharing your wisdom as well! Always so appreciated. ๐Ÿ˜Š

  6. Fascinating similarities across dreamers. 3.33 is a significant number for me, too. I wrote about subject a while back, too. Thank you for your attention to this subject and for sharing Stephanie’s link. I will explore further. Your graphics are complementary to the dreaming, mysterious side of life. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผโœจ
