For Kevin’s No Theme Thursday. My final submission this week. Saving the best for last.

In the shadows, malevolent forces do lurk and hide,
Seeking only to control, to harm and divide,
Breaking your mind, body, heart and soul apart,
But within his swift action, curses and enemies soon depart.

“Whose side are you on, anyways?” he asked me, angrily one night,
And then, I told him about my hard, but necessary, spiritual plight.
My purpose in life, to speak to them all,
Angels and demons, and the restless spirits who fall.

“I understand,” he said with a reluctant, ominous tone,
“But let me pull you back, when you’ve gone too far alone.”
Divine protector of the weariest, hardened battle-born,
and the bravest Archangel, defender of the weak and spiritually worn.

How can I ever show you gratitude, and repay your might,
For going into battle for me, in that most treacherous night?
With such hardships and brutal warfare to finally mend,
St. Michael, the Archangel, I will praise you forever – until the very end.

St. Michael the Archangel – the most powerful of spiritual warriors, protector and defender of all who are placed in perilous and dangerous situations, how can I ever repay you for your divine intercession into my life, all those years ago? If not for you – my life may be completely destroyed.

And even though I may not be ready to tell the entire story, I cannot see your likeness and not write about your divine presence. A simple “thank you” is never enough.

Amen. 🙏

  3. Such a fierce poem, but so vulnerable and tender, perhaps because it contains the sensitivity of an earlier time of reaching and need?
